I feel like the former scenario would just lead to the latter anyway, but with zombies.
So I'll go for 'just' complete economic collapse, please 😁
yeah with zombie there's less people and disaster to unite around (maybe?). with an economic collapse people aren't dying they're just getting hungrier and angrier, and there isn't necessarily a universal threat to rally behind. could just be "I can secure your base level needs" and "they are a threat to us and if they don't take them out, they will take us out"
We're already on our way to number 2 so I guess it's time to prepare for that.
I think dealing with zombies would be easier.
Braindead former humans wander the land aimlessly and cause huge problems for everyone else.

According to my novel and very intelligent horseshoe theory, this argument makes you as bad as the zombies.
They want to eat you. You want to live. Give and take here, find a compromise. Do you really need both of those arms?
Zombies. It's a concrete problem with a clear solution.
And after the apocalypse is finished there's probably gonna be Iike, jobs available, and plenty of empty real estate. Opportunities!

Eh, I don't think that much would change. Either it would be zombies who'd decide your fate or the psychopaths running things. I think you'd be surprised how many of them you'd know from the old days from TV.

If so, in a lot of ways, that would be good for me. No shortage of housing or food, and lots of new opportunities. It's not ethical to condemn pretty much everyone else, though, if I literally am deciding for it to happen in-universe.

For the zombies scenario? That's what I meant - you've presented it as either-or, but a serious loss of population seems like it could lead to political instability fairly easily. Political instability always sucks to live through.
Yeah it's a would you rather so it's an either/or. Everyone turning into some kind of zombie would be different than everyone not turning into zombies but the government stops functioning
Zombies because of the premise that I’m one of the survivors; could find a nice isolated island live a decent off grid lifestyle. If I have time to prepare can even bring niceties like a bunch of raspberry pi’s and hardware and just chill out farming and playing games, developing software, writing, etc. Try to restart civilization.
Something tells me we’re probably going to get both.
Fast zombies, or slow?
I've watched Zombieland, The Walking Dead and played The Last Of Us, Dying Light, one could say I'm an expert.
I'm not making it past day 1.
Zombies so I won't feel guilty shooting everything that can't have a conversation.
