My mother socialized me too damn well, people IRL think I'm friendly and kind when in reality I hate every last one of those fucks from behind my eyes.
I relate really hard to this comment. My mother, for all her faults, truly seems to believe the best in people, which I do find admirable. Shortly before retirement, she worked a few retail jobs, where she thrived and loved getting the grumpy clients. She said trying to make them smile was always her favourite mini-game at work.
As much as I hate most people, that mentality has translated into my work ethic as a customer service employee. You never know what someone is going through, and unless you actively make the staff feel unsafe I will try my best to make your day a bit nicer.
Why's it your job to deescalate a situation that angry customers turn hostile, particularly after initial attempts fail?
For most people, that's just allowing them to offload their stress onto you, and that's not fair. We should have to hold other people accountable for their shitty behavior, lest they learn the wrong lessons.
The only time imo you could argue it's ok is with seniors, because they ain't gonna learn...
I've told everyone I work with that this is all an act and I hate most people.
