Trying to pass laws to defend protesters’ rights is a lonely battle on Capitol Hill.

This article does a good job explaining what is going on, while also shaming the Democrats who fell for the trap: https://jonathancohn.medium.com/a-tale-of-two-resolutions-75-dems-join-gop-in-resolution-praising-trumps-mass-deportation-regime-15cf590770ea

If any of the Democrats on this list represent you, give them a call and ask them why they agreed to this resolution.

Holy wow, I am shocked my singular Dem Blue Dog voted against. But he should have been retired long ago and has done so much damage to the credibility of voting blue. Maybe he got rich enough and/or has health concerns and plans to retire. Maybe he had a change of conscience. Idk, but I'm so shocked he voted against, I don't know what else I feel about this, other than "that's better than nothing after all these decades."

There's plenty of Reaganites that drank the Kool aid, and when you're rich as shit you don't see all the actual effects on the country, just the line going up.

Eventually though, some of them see the government doing fascism and and realize it's what they've been screeching about for forty years, even if they can never admit to themselves the part they played in creating it.

Another one of those worthless do-nothing resolutions. They probably didn't even read beyond the title.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 6 days ago

They probably didn’t even read beyond the title.

I was convinced a long time ago that none of them read a single fucking thing that comes across their desk unless it involves money.

They read the titles of things, form an opinion based on the title, and vote whichever way their party leaders tell them to.

The ones that vote differently I figure either know it won't make a difference, they have some way of benefiting from the opposite outcome, or least likely, they genuinely believe their constituents will receive the greatest benefit from voting another way.

And they make it super obvious with some of the names that they want people to stop reading at the title and don't bother looking any deeper.

I also think that the people who actually write the laws make them as hard to read and understand as possible so legislators have to rely on what they are told is in them.

My representative is good, thank fuck

[-] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

All "my" representatives are fascists anyways, WHEW, close one.

[-] [email protected] 21 points 6 days ago

News flash. If they're praising the blatant illegal activity of ICE and the Tyrannical-Rump administration, they ARE NOT democrats. They're Fascist plants. Vote them out and if they don't go, start rolling up your sleeves.

[-] [email protected] 22 points 6 days ago

They are Democrats. Praising and enabling "law enforcement" while casting oneself as the savior from tyranny is part of the essence of the modern Democratic Party. It's those who don't who are the exception.

Honestly man it's time to examine the actual structure of the party you're talking about. It's completely locked down by a donor class that prefers losing a hundred time to allowing one victory for the left. There's more room for criticism of the forever wars on the right, even of it's only performative Tea Partyesque babbling about how they were mismanaged and a waste of money. Of course, the wars aren't designed to be won, they're designed to cripple regions economically to uphold dependency relations and make the MIC some money. And nobody like JD Vance or Tulsi Gabbard will really try to put a stop to that. Just saying even they are less unilateral in their support of our wars than the post-911 democrats.

I was once a citizen of the former United States. Then some real sharp thinkers came in and did some really dumb stuff.... At this point there are only fascists and non-fascists. I'm not really fond of facists so....

[-] [email protected] 14 points 6 days ago

Omar got how many? The other guy got 75?

Yeah. I'm not voting blue until they earn it.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

I'm sure you didn't vote blue in the last election or the one before that.

So what's really changing?

[-] [email protected] 11 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Yep, letting Republicans take over will certainly help. I should know as someone from a state whose entire Federal representation is republican. We get some of the most egregious and stupid punishing bills imaginable past. And it's really helped us I'm sure somehow.

However I can't help but think that maybe voting is the minimum we should do. And that we should vote conscientiously and strategically to keep Republicans from elected office even if that means voting for a Democrat. But more importantly we should primary all Democrats and all republicans. Not just vote for who the inadequate ones in charge think is good. Vote blue to keep the Republicans out if we have to. But primary them all.

That's how you earn fascism.

[-] [email protected] 13 points 6 days ago

The people we voted for to stop fascism are voting with the fascists.

And you.

[-] [email protected] 12 points 6 days ago

They're not wrong. But we have to focus on step two of that equation which is primary everyone and not to let the people who carelessly support this keep their safe offices

[-] [email protected] 7 points 6 days ago

And look at what they're doing to David Hogg for trying.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 6 days ago

And? David's gonna focus on step two still. Now the leadership had clearly marked themselves as a core part of the problem is all.

Correct, right now this should be our focus. Let's get candidates that people actually want to vote for. Get those boomers out at a minimum.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago

vote for fascism light because otherwise you'll get fascism.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

Unfortunately the lesser of two evils is the ONLY choice in a 2 party system.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

there isn't really a lesser of two evils.

when one is a fash, and the other one is a fash enabler.

I don’t vote based on resolution bills because they don’t impact the law. This shit is just used in campaign ads down the line to make whatever argument is convenient for the situation. I would prefer if my rep Shri just abstained. It’s such a lose-lose. Yes we condemn fire bombing people in the streets. We do not condone ICE actions but they’re wrapped In the same little stupid resolution for no real reason.
