Former 3 year veteran of lemm.ee and I got to say the instance was where I first learned of the federated web.

But as for the people who had to be jerks and the small admin pool, it was doomed to die. But none the less, things were going to end. Even without the problems they had at the end.

edit: a lot of this is wrong. See my reply.

I'm still up in the air about what to do with [email protected]. My first instinct was to take this as an opportunity for consolidation and to try to grow an RTS community by posting to [email protected].

But it doesn't look great right now. In the original community I could pretty reliably get at least 2 or 3 upvotes indicating people saw it and appreciated it, in this new community I'm getting nothing. And neither is the sole other poster, @[email protected], who was posting to it. And the other related communities, [email protected] and [email protected] are even more devoid of response.

So I'm wondering if part of the issue is that reddthat may be too small of an instance and many users may not be able to find it due to federation issues. And maybe I should take the opportunity to sync over to Piefed, or launch a community in one of the instances recommended by @[email protected] or @[email protected] in the community's announcement post (or go with my initial idea of lemmy.zip).

But obviously the issue can't only be the size of the instance, since even the two larger existing instances are seeing so much less engagement than the one I'm moving away from. I'm at a bit of a loss as to why this could be and what to do.

if you think the problem with the rts comm from reddthat is that it isnt federated with many instances you could use the lemmy-federate so it gets federated with all instances allowed by reddthat.

also maybe you could crosspost to some active gaming comms so people see that there is an rts comm

Yeah I actually pointed out in a comment that I posted presumably after you loaded the page (only a few minutes before your comment was made) that the problem was me. I hadn't subscribed, so my instance wasn't federated with it.

Thanks for that link though. I knew that tool existed but couldn't remember the name or URL of it and couldn't find the last time I had seen it discussed. I like the idea of crossposting the bigger news, too.

🤦‍♂️

Ok that's on me. I wasn't subscribed to the community, so my instance wasn't getting any federation through. Still, I dunno if I should be nervous or not about reddthat's longevity. It does seem to be a single-user instance, which feels risky.

It's a smaller instance, but has been around for quite a while

@[email protected] has always been very open with communication about the instance, feel free to ask him any questions

Has everyone with a lemm.ee community settled to a new location yet?

Mostly.

For the communities I moderate, I've got 4 of 5 done:

For the communities I'm subscribed to, most of which have no active mod, 6 out of 8 have found new homes.

Pending:

Any suggestions for these last two, or for [email protected]?

Wow, that's a lot, good luck!

[email protected] has lost members recently idk why. From what I gather from other comments, the subscribers figure yoyos. We're still doing well though and I'm helped by some brilliant people.

I've taken over [email protected] and I'm looking forward to expanding and growing that.

My biggest community is hosted on slrpnk and that's as down as can be right now.

Luckily I didn't host anything on lemm.ee

Moved most of the community to different instance but still trying to find a place for [email protected] and CassetteeFuturism. (Don't want to repeat the mistake of making too much communities on a single instance)

It's really interesting to see so many communities move to piefed.social. I've always been a proponent of spreading out the fediverse though, shame it's all the flagship piefed instance. Is there a generic piefed instance that isn't .social?

https://piefed.ca/ is a new one by the people behind lemmy.ca. I expect more instances will pop up in the near future.

I moved [email protected] and [email protected]

I still have to move [email protected] and [email protected], probably at some point next week

Thanks for all the work you're doing with the move Blaze!

[email protected] is doing relatively well, albeit it's mostly me doing the posting. Let's how much it can grow in the next few months.

[email protected] is seeing slow, but stable growth.
