He's not American, so he might've had a different view on things. The view of many pro business not-quite-Americans is of this place as a land of promise and opportunity. It's why so many immigrate in hoping them or their children can make a good life, when they're really just convenient labor for the ruling class. Still a stale af take though.
If he was from anywhere other than Canada, sure. But as a Canadian? America is paper thin but extremely loud. Being next door and seeing Americans come up here for medication costs and America using us for their entertainment? We Canadians get all of Americas media but without the propaganda from the top of our government down forcing American supremacy. For Canadians it is easy as hell to see through the American dream nonsense. ESPECIALLY when you consider the running joke in Canada for decades is that our favorite national pass time is saying how were not the Americans. Not like we ever really liked the US up here.
Note I said "pro business," which probably checks out for someone who's formed connections with multiple tech businesses over the years. When you're around people who believe something like that, it often seeps into your way of understanding the world. Now that the neoliberal house of cards is collapsing, Linus is realizing that the tech business community themselves were the biggest believers in the lie.
In all fairness, he kind of lived his own version: started a company on his own, became successful, got pretty rich.
And like I said, he's Canadian. There is no way that he couldn't have seen through that unless he was flagrant about his sheer stupidity. You can't live next door to that shithole and see what they do, have our news cover it for years and be part of this country while honestly thinking that America is good for business. Not if you have been paying a fraction of attention to the world around you. The only way he believes that about America is stupidity or surrounding himself with people who blow smoke up his ass.
This shit is why I've never trusted Linus. Just because he's smart in one area doesn't mean he's smart across the board. Moments like this prove it.
The only way he believes that about America is stupidity or surrounding himself with people who blow smoke up his ass.
aka, powerful silicone valley tech bros who give off the aura of being in charge of the future
No, I mean from the start. Not when he got popular. Like every Canadian learns that by osmosis, especially when you're in B.C.
Linus is smart when it comes to tech and that is it. Just like Ben Carson was brilliant with neurosurgery but was so stupid he believed the pyramids were used for grain. Linus is a wizard when it comes to tech and an utter idiot when it comes to anything to do with the real world.
Then again... maybe Linus belongs more in America considering the controversy he had with pumping out low quality garbage that didn't meet any standards and got him drop kicked out as CEO. Was really hoping that moment would obliterate him from public discourse but evidently not.
Edit: Apparently that LMG controversy was a bit more fucked than I realized...
Yea idk listening to the clip it's probably not a new idea of his, just thought the cover was kinda funny
Anyways, he literally says in the clip that the American dream (of at least middle class prosperity) was mostly real for the baby boomer generation so I don't really know why they titled it that
Next LinusMediaGroup video is titled "I'm turning my company into a worker-owned cooperative", and the thumbnail is Linus standing in front of a red star on a black background. In the intro of the video, he says this:
You know the cliché: socialism doesn't work. Everyone is telling you it'll lead to starvation, because of the holodomor. But after I did the bare minimum of actual research that did not involve any far-right think-tanks, it turns out the holodomor was caused by the Ukrainians not wanting to suck it up to Stalin, and then Stalin doing a bit of a revenge, instead of "planned economy" and a lack of "infinite growth". So I did even more research, it turns out, just like the right has its more quote mark "libertarian" counterpart, socialism, at least originally, was a very libertarian movement, it's just the definition was changed by both Stalinist regimes, and those far-right think-tanks. And it's actually awesome when implemented correctly! You know what else is awesome? Our sponsor squarespace.
Co-ops are cool but radical militias are cooler
Oh no, what the fuck did he say again, and how much is Luke going to have to work to mitigate the damage?
(This comment is a joke, please do not tell me what he said, I don't want to know)
Is Linus claiming to have been a frequent user of the hard R again?
It's called a dream because you have to be asleep to believe it
I no longer care about anything this clown has to say. Refusing to address the allegations is admittion of guilt in the worst possible way.
What allegations? I know there's been some things in the past, but is there something new/more recent?
What allegations?
Anyone who keeps bringing up “allegations” against Linus is huffing too many of Steve’s farts. Dude can’t even bother to actually bring facts to the table, and has made shitting on Linus his entire personality and channel money maker.
I'm referring primarily to the Rossmann allegations. He accuses him of only caring about his image, and low and behold he doesnt respond (because it would hurt his image).
Also, I do not give a fuck if Linus wants to accuse Steve of having poor journalistic integrity after he repeatedly reported on interviews Steve has done without so much as a credit.
Just because Steve didn't kneel down and suck Linus off does not make him a poor journalist. What Linus did is theft, and GN not reaching out for comment in advance does not change this.
Say you never watched any of the GN videos without ever saying you never watched any of the GN videos.
I have, and I've seen LTTs responses. The ball landed in Steves court without further comments from what I've understood.
I did, Steve complains, doesn’t provide actual proof, and then continues to rehash the same shit that was covered and corrected or apologized for by Linus. It’s clearly a targeted attack at this point, and anyone that believes anything Steve says is falling to misinformation at this point.
Linus isn’t a saint, but he sure as hell isn’t attacking other YouTubers consistently and without reason like Steve is.
He apologized so stop bringing it up!
What a bad take.
You need to keep Steve's name out of your mouth, he deserves better.

Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
