Same. I have a 1080ti my pal gave me.....but it's overclocked to all fuck, and I can't afford to build a custom water-cooling loop to upgrade from the 1060.....we'll....I COULD afford it, but there's other stuff that's more importanter
Can't you underclock it using MSI afterburner, so it'll run cooler?
Sure! But my buddy had thrown away the stock cooling system and just gave me the card with the custom water block on it......
Maybe buy a broken one that has working fans and then yank the cooling.

Well, even underclocking it won't make it run that cool. Sounds like a radiator & pump and tubing might be cheaper than buying a dead card and cannibalizing.

That's nice to hear. Alan Wake 2 was a great game and gorgeous, but even after upgrading my gpu, it was a pain trying to get it to run even sort of smoothly. A bit over ambitous, methinks.
Control, otoh, ran great when it came out and still runs great, all while looking great as well. Going back to whatever strategy worked their seems like a good idea.
Yeah, that’s not bad! Now, that is with quality upscaling, so not at native 1080p. And on low settings, which we’re yet to see how that looks.
But yeah, compared to most of the industry (even themselves with AW2), this is a pleasant surprise! It makes me more open to trying it, since I find shooters on kbm to benefit greatly from higher framerates.
Anyways, I’m not expecting call of duty or cs2 framerates. Lower quality options in those games tend to look pretty presentable, and framerates can get past 120 fps depending on the rig and settings. This game isn’t PvP, though, and I think this middle ground between performance and quality is a great fit for PvE. Helldivers II is where my mind goes (except this game will have half-competent upscaling).
Apparently the steam deck graphics capabilities are about equivalent to a GTX 1050 TI, so curious if this will run on deck OK or not.
Considering the Steam Deck's screen is 1280x800, I think it might be ok.
Bit late, but in theory, it should work just fine, even at 60 fps, given that the Steam Deck's display resolution is only about half of 1080p.

Somewhere above 720p upscaled to 1080p with the help of FSR should work for 60 fps. The lower render resolution is likely enough to compensate for the lack of VRAM. This is all theoretical, of course.

To run 1080p60 you need a 9-year-old GPU paired with a 8-year-old CPU.
What performance were you hoping to get out of that hardware?
- The GTX 1070 was in the upper tier of gaming GPUs when it was released, categorized as high-end on Wikipedia. Most people wouldn't be able to justify the cost of its kind of performance until years later, even if the next thing didn't happen...
- About half that long ago, GPU prices tripled, and prices are still absurdly elevated today even adjusting for high inflation. This has significantly delayed a lot of peoples' normal upgrade cycles, so your 9-year-old GPU is effectively more like a 4-year-old GPU with respect to affordable upgrade path.
- Back when that card was new, running a first-person game at 60fps 1080p was mainstream and not particularly impressive. That level of performance is mediocre-to-weak today.
(And by the way, the other GPU they mention is only 5 years old.)
With all these things considered, I don't view the quoted performance as anything special. It's not particularly bad, but not particularly good either. Certainly not "very friendly", or newsworthy.

That wasn't my experience in 2016 when I was rocking an HD 7850, and getting less than 60fps at 1080p for FPS's in 2016, a card that would have only been 4 years old at the time (and technically worse than what was in the PS4).
(And by the way, the other GPU they mention is only 5 years old.)
And about 15 percent more performant than the GTX 1070. With an MSRP about $100 less than it, and it being considered midrange.
Also, none of that really answers my question: What performance were you hoping that this GPU + CPU combo would give you?
