His name is Pete Hoekstra, and I can't say I'm a fan on what I've heard so far. Seems like he was put in the position to try and gaslight the hell out of us, he seems very disingenuous from what I've read so far. This interview got me annoyed.

I can't be the only one who can't help thinking of the rumored Trump golden shower tapes every time he talks about the golden dome. It's what I imagine he's dreaming of, but on a continental scale.

Anyone with half a brain knows that it's futile to actually negotiate in good faith with Trump.

Beyond funding the military Industrial complex, there is no reason for this. The US has by beyond far the biggest military in the world, there are no realistic threats, this is a ginormous waste of money and resources
And to those saying that China is a threat: yeah, to Taiwan, perhaps. But attacking the US mainland? Come on, be serious.

Republicans will never lose vote for increasing military funding. Trump family gets gifts and favours, doles out some taxpayer money in a way that their languishing and impoverished voter base approves. It's the art of the deal.
Canada should not be "negotiating"/subjugating itself to this. Instead it should demand the US pay for NORAD. There is a huge cost to Canada for sycophancy to US empire. Our entire military spending is based on force amplification to the US empire's demonic and genocidal imperialism, and the illusion of impunity for consequences, makes us cheer on the propaganda for evil, and not pay enough attention to the costs.
So much prosperity in Canada, EU, and other US colonies can be unlocked through spending on other than a militarist destiny fueled by Russophobia and Sinophobia propaganda.
Calm your tits. Were talking about going up to 2% of our GDP. Officially, China is currently at about 1.5%, but estimates put it higher. And that doesn't give us the second largest military in the world.

Our defense needs are exclusively protecting us from US. Both NORAD and golden dome which would most likely be under NORAD supervision are expenses that we make to protect North America only because we are aligned with US evil that might require annihilation of those aligned with US evil.
Whether we buy our "force projection" and "defense projection" systems from other countries than US, our military/defense system so far has been to be under US command. We should be paid significantly to have NORAD and golden dome on our soil/air, but Canada does not actually need the protection unless it chooses US aligned evil against the world. We can measure the cost of evil in NORAD/Golden Dome expenses.
