Is it time yet to admit that liberalism is, and has always been, a plutocratic ideology?

[-] [email protected] 14 points 3 days ago

Democrats arent even in favor of universal healthcare, in other countries I think they'd be conservatives.

[-] [email protected] 12 points 3 days ago

Blackrock CEO is a huge Democrat donor. That should tell you enough.

[-] [email protected] 31 points 4 days ago

My "independent" uncle told me at thanksgiving last year that he fundamentally disagrees with the idea that anything can be improved. The world is was good as it ever will be. So, he doesn't support anyone claiming that things can be made better, and we shouldn't try to fix any problems.

Passive Nihilism

However, Nietzsche didn’t think everyone was capable of curing themselves of nihilism.  What Nietzsche calls passive nihilism is a view that accepts nihilism as the endpoint of the search for meaning. Passive nihilists lack the strength to be the creators of their own values and meanings. For Nietzsche, a passive nihilist is characterized by a weak will, by the inability to create meaning, and by the tendency to withdraw from the world.

He also said they were womanly priests acting on behalf of the Jews to destroy masculinity but he said that about everything

I have no words, just wow

"We should improve society somewhat."

"No, 'somewhat' implies half-measures and continued coexistence with capitalism. Get out of here you filthy liberal. Only full violent revolution, which we will not engage in but will discuss in perpetuum, shall be considered."

[-] [email protected] 23 points 3 days ago

Well, when are liberals planning on improving society somewhat? Does this happen after they get done working with Trump and republicans? Is it gonna be with the next democrat who gets the White House? The one after that?

I’m just curious as to when we’ll start seeing more than attempts at rousing speeches from them.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Their half measures often make things worse in the long run. For example, because they fumbled the ball so hard with single payer healthcare, we just got marketplaces instead, so still private insurance, only now the federal government can reach in and dictate that they're not obligated to cover this or that, which the Trump admin is doing now. Their idea of compromise is building a big button into everything they do that turns it into some heinous shit the next time a republican rolls around.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 3 days ago

Let's not forget that it's their fault we're in this mess in the first place. They fucked up so bad with Biden/Harris and the campaign against Trump, and then millions of them just stayed home come election time. They can try blaming that on leftists all they want, but there's not that many leftists in the nation.

[-] [email protected] 13 points 3 days ago

Let me know when liberals improve society somewhat. Not happening here in America for the last 10 years.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago

Off the top of my head, from someone not even in the US, there were the student loan forgiveness programs, or the insulin price limit.

Both are arguably remedies for symptoms, and the right is far more efficient in undoing anything good. But pretending the liberals didn't do anything in the past 10 years is disingenuous.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

And I'm not going to deny they tried to do something good. But the student loan forgiveness program alone:

  • Could have been fought harder. As soon as they were lightly told no, they stopped trying. Decorum was more important than reliving millions of Americans from billions of debt.
  • Student loan debt not being removed from bankruptcy and tied to credit lines was cause by Biden. He wrote the bill. I am happy he can acknowledge his mistakes and try to correct them, but when you're the reason for a bad thing, and do not try hard enough to make it go away, you are an enabler.

And the insulin price limit is good, but it was done with the stroke of a pen. Trump removed it with a stroke of a pen. If something that light can be done or taken away with a stroke, what more can be done? Where is the limit? Could Biden just nationalize the insulin production companies?

Small wins are important, but when I know of someone who is broke and getting insulin was literally a life or death situaion, sometimes selling small mementos and items to be able to just live without keeling over, the cap could have been 0.99 cents, or zero.

Incrementalism is a lofty goal when citizens are paycheck to paycheck, can barely afford a random expense, have nothing in savings, food and rent prices are going up, etc. etc. It makes people willing to ignore history and consider listening to a conman who enabling the worst of humanity.

When people are stressed and unsure what to do, they'll be desperate. Sometimes its robbing a convenience store, sometimes its stealing from big retailers, sometimes its sometimes its voting for a fascist.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago

I certainly prefer a yes and. Yes we should forgive student loan debt and eliminate the need to accrue such debt in the first place etc. etc.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Took the words out of my... fingers

[-] [email protected] 13 points 3 days ago

Why is this comic just ripping off a better one that's already been turned into this meme format? Weird shit.

[-] [email protected] 13 points 3 days ago

In the bottom right hand corner, you can see the words "tribute to a comic by BORS". The comic artist's website has this to say about this comic: "Tribute to that famous and cool comic by BORS".

Its fine I guess? I think he should have linked to Matt Bors's website (which is easily found on google) but whatever. It is a low effort MS paint comic, after all.

[-] [email protected] 11 points 4 days ago

So the moderates were the real extremists all along

[-] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago

Get alienated, idiot

[-] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Revolution will be achieved through collaboration with liberal moderates (hitlerites)

[-] [email protected] 0 points 4 days ago

Cool. Are you going to try to convert people or just sit around waiting for them to figure it out? Or try to drag the small far left to your portion of it

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)
  1. The best way to 'convert' someone is for them to literally "figure it out" by themselves and start reading political theory via their own volition to grasp the world better rather than get their worldview from inconsistent, barely coherent liberal media slop. It's impossible to 'convert' purely via a singular argument, just look at linux users trying to convert entrenched windows users.

  2. The comment was a reference to how radicalized socialist workers (who'd make up military core and who had demands like worker councils, socialization of industry) would team up with liberal elements in a popular front type of way, only for this front after winning to immediately betray and sideline the worker's demands. Historical examples: French revolutions, overthrow of Fascist Italy, February revolution in Russia, etc.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

Oh ok sorry, us anarchists usually are shot from the front and back by that point, so I tend to forget about that part.

[-] [email protected] -1 points 3 days ago

Wait a minute, you think the liberals ruined the February Revolution, buddy, the socialist leadership wasn't even there for it. What next? Calling the makhnovists libs?

I'm a socialist in favor of left unity, but you need to touch grass, make friends with people who disagree with you, then go back and try to figure out who betrayed Marxist ideals in November of 1917.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Holy shit why is every .worlder so aggressive? I don't know how you derived such a conclusion from my original comment, so let me explain:

Proletarians, soldiers, peasants and so on overthrew the Tsarists, and in this popular front of sorts proletariat had demands for the liberal provisional government, such as Russia's withdrawal from WW1, land and labor reforms - things of that nature. The provisional liberal government failed to meet any of that (either via stalling or evading action), and they also didn't withdraw from the war, and these reasons definitely contributed to November revolution.

Simplified to not make it too long, but that's the core point - nothing to do with Marxist ideals.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

They're aggressive because they're smug. They think neoliberalism is the only rational way of thinking.

Anything else that says otherwise, like history, economics, science, social studies, is somehow a personal attack to them. They've made neoliberalism a religion.

.world would rather have everyone here be a insufferable liberal who wants nothing but electoralism but will make no concessions to win the popular vote. Fascism brings in good money after all.

[-] [email protected] -1 points 3 days ago

Uh, if this is your biggest obstacle I'd say just start doing things and stop waiting for permission you'll never get.

[-] [email protected] -2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Fuck moderates, they'll die when we get rid of all the nazis just like any other piece of trash.

Edit: im talking US politics. The rest of the world has their shit figured out so this sounds wild to them, but here the only way we get anything done is by putting a bullet in our oppressors. Thats the way its been since we ditched the british, and thats the way it was until we shot the slavers. But ever since then, America has decided to cozy up to nazis, pedophiles, and fascists. So when given the option between "kill all trans people, all colored people, and all women" and "kill only the colored trans women" I choose "its time to start loading my gun"

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

Getting downvoted for being actively mad at fascists and their enablers. I wish anarchist spaces weren't infest with liberals.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago

yeah nothing says improve society like killing everyone who doesn't think exactly like you

[-] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

When the lives of people are on the line, they deserve no forgiveness and mercy when they enabled fascism.

If you did nothing to stop fascists but being slightly rude to people online fighting for a better world, you're a useful moron for fascists.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago

If the people “who doesn’t think exactly like” us are democrats who are working with the literal Nazis in the White House, then they are nothing more than Nazi collaborators. And the only good Nazi…

[-] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

I also pretend to misunderstand the people who pressure me not to be a limp dick centrist.

News flash: they're going to put us in the same camps, and apathy isn't going to stop the camps from being built.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Yep, they had their chance to not support genocide and theocracy, and they made their choice. Now their continued presence makes people think we have to tolerate it at we end up with idiots like you.

Yes, getting rid of the bad people makes the world inprove. Glad you figured that out.

Edit: nah, i shouldn't have responded. You're aren't even arguing in good faith. I said moderates, you said everyone. If you can take a look at nazis and at almost anyone else and cant see the difference youre just as bad as the nazis. Thats the one good thing about our country becoming so polarized, its really easy to see who the good people are and who the moderates/republicans/nazis/rapists/murderes/pedophiles/priests are.

Lefty Memes

8 users here now

An international (English speaking) socialist Lemmy community free of the "ML" influence of instances like lemmy.ml and lemmygrad. This is a place for undogmatic shitposting and memes from a progressive, anti-capitalist and truly anti-imperialist perspective, regardless of specific ideology.

Serious posts, news, and discussion go in c/Socialism.

If you are new to socialism, you can ask questions and find resources over on c/Socialism101.

Please don't forget to help keep this community clean by reporting rule violations, updooting good contributions and downdooting those of low-quality!

Rules

Version without spoilers

0. Only post socialist memes

That refers to funny image macros and means that generally videos and screenshots are not allowed. Exceptions include explicitly humorous and short videos, as well as (social media) screenshots depicting a funny situation, joke, or joke picture relating to socialist movements, theory, societal issues, or political opponents. Examples would be the classic case of humorous Tumblr or Twitter posts/threads. (and no, agitprop text does not count as a meme)

0.5 [Provisional Rule] Use alt text or image descriptions to allow greater accessibility

We require alternative text (from now referred to as "alt text") to be added to all posts/comments containing media, such as images, animated GIFs, videos, audio files, and custom emojis.
EDIT: For files you share in the comments, a simple summary should be enough if they’re too complex.

We are committed to social equity and to reducing barriers of entry, including (digital) communication and culture. It takes each of us only a few moments to make a whole world of content (more) accessible to a bunch of folks.

When alt text is absent, a reminder will be issued. If you don't add the missing alt text within 48 hours, the post will be removed. No hard feelings.

1. Socialist Unity in the form of mutual respect and good faith interactions is enforced here

Try to keep an open mind, other schools of thought may offer points of view and analyses you haven't considered yet. Also: This is not a place for the Idealism vs. Materialism or rather Anarchism vs. Marxism debate(s), for that please visit c/AnarchismVsMarxism.

2. Anti-Imperialism means recognizing capitalist states like Russia and China as such

That means condemning (their) imperialism, even if it is of the "anti-USA" flavor.

3. No liberalism, (right-wing) revisionism or reactionaries.

That includes so called: Social Democracy, Democratic Socialism, Dengism, Market Socialism, Patriotic Socialism, National Bolshevism, Anarcho-Capitalism etc. . Anti-Socialist people and content have no place here, as well as the variety of "Marxist"-"Leninists" seen on lemmygrad and more specifically GenZedong (actual ML's are welcome as long as they agree to the rules and don't just copy paste/larp about stuff from a hundred years ago).

4. No Bigotry.

The only dangerous minority is the rich.

5. Don't demonize previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

We must constructively learn from their mistakes, while acknowledging their achievements and recognizing when they have strayed away from socialist principles.

(if you are reading the rules to apply for modding this community, mention "Mantic Minotaur" when answering question 2)

6. Don't idolize/glorify previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

Notable achievements in all spheres of society were made by various socialist/people's/democratic republics around the world. Mistakes, however, were made as well: bureaucratic castes of parasitic elites - as well as reactionary cults of personality - were established, many things were mismanaged and prejudice and bigotry sometimes replaced internationalism and progressiveness.
