Video of Ollie Bearman not slowing down but rather overtaking someone under red flags: https://imgur.com/a/8mjcBj3

So Ollie is on a push lap while Sainz is parked up ahead on a slow lap. Ollie goes through the chicane and the panel looks yellow. Then this video begins. He sees the second panel while the car is loaded up, approaching a corner. Ollie brakes and goes passed the nearly stationary Williams.

Is it even possible to load up the car and slam on the brakes just to brake before a car going less than half your speed? Did Ollie get punished because Monaco is a bad / awkward track?

I think the stewards had to punish this because on paper he overtook under red, they can't let that slide no matter the circumstances. But yeah, I also wonder if it would have been safely possible to break here and stop before getting up to Sainz

Oof that's his race effectively over.

The new forced 2-stop might lead to something funky, we'll see. Odds on him pitting on lap 2?

Ouch, that's got to sting!

I wonder why he did it - did he just not notice? Seems like an extremely boneheaded move otherwise

Did you see the clip? It seems like an overreaction to me, he was slowing down but just happened to make the pass in the process. It's honestly not THAT egregious IMO

As soon as he saw the reds he should have slowed down, even if he is midway around one corner of a corner combination. Because he did not know whether a few meters ahead a crashed car might block the entire track.

Oh it is, itโ€™s one of the most dangerous things a driver can do. Thatโ€™s why it is always a significant penalty regardless of excuse.
