Pavlos Fyssas was a Greek anti-fascist rapper who was killed by members of the fascist group Golden Dawn on this day in 2013.

Fyssas, also known as "Killah P" ("Killer of the Past"), came from a working class family. He and his father were both members of the Piraeus metal union. Pavlos had been active hip hop since 1997 and is well-known for his left-wing, anti-fascist lyrics.

On September 18th, 2013, Fyssas was fatally stabbed by Giorgios Roupakias, a member and employee of the neo-fascist party Golden Dawn. Following his death, there were a series of protests and rallies against Golden Dawn throughout Europe.

During one protest in Athens, attended by 2,500-10,000 people, anti-fascists began marching towards Golden Dawn's central offices and were arrested and beaten by police. On November 1st, 2013, a shooting took place at the Golden Dawn's Neo Irakleio offices in Athens, killing two members.

In October 2020, sixty-eight members of Golden Dawn were declared part of a criminal organization, and fifteen were convicted in charges relating to Pavlos' murder.

When asked about Pavlos' character by Al Jazeera, his mother stated "You're asking a mother about what kind of a person her son was. He was a free man."

"The world has become a big prison

and I'm looking for a way to break the chains

...

Let them come and find me at the mountain top, I'm waiting for them and I will not bother with fear."

"gender is a pain"
character in Darling In The Franxx english dub

This is good. What the hell. I'm with the guy who's supposed to be bad/elitist, but seems to be a quasi-antinatalist gender-abolitionist.

Nope, they made him evil. Should have expected this development.

Noticed that the writers strike is being framed as “the Hollywood strike” by certain outlets

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but that just seems like disingenuous framing to rile up hogs

I buy books (to be clear here I mean novels. Mostly genre stuff. So not, like, genuinely challenging reading material) much faster than I read them nowadays, but only because now I'm lucky if I read a book every two months. It's not even that I don't have the time, or the interest.

It's more like these days I lack the commitment, strange as that may sound. I'll carry books from room to room, or take them to work pretending I'll read them on break, but when I read I like to know I'll have an hour or two of uninterrupted time, and I'll convince myself that that isn't possible right now. Or sometimes I'll need to relax first to get in the mood to read (doesn't that sound bizarre? Relax before I read a novel, an inherently leisure activity? It doesn't make any sense), so I'll watch an episode of TV or something, and the next thing you know I'll have watched six 20 minute shows. Or one show and then segue into a movie. Or I'll browse reddit or twitter or tiktok for three hours. So I absolutely had time to read, but somewhere along the way actually reading became somehow daunting.

But then, even worse, once I'm into a book it doesn't matter if I only have ten minutes to read. I'll read for those ten minutes and then spend the rest of the day in anticipation until I can get back to it. But somehow, somewhere in the course of my life, starting a book became damn near impossible.
