During the just-concluded May Day holidays, the government canteen in Rongchang district, Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, opened its doors to the public, specially offering over 20 local specialty dishes that provided visitors with the opportunity to enjoy a one-stop culinary journey of authentic local flavors, with prices ranging from 3 yuan ($0.42) to 18 yuan per dish, according to the Xinhua News Agency.

Imagine having a local cafeteria within walking distance with dishes that start at 50 cents a pop. Couldn't be my country that ruthlessly charges the poor for access to food (USA).

Cafeterias have often been something I thought would be such a boon to our societies, cooking food at home is “cheaper” here, but it’s so damn inefficient. Imagine my surprise when I saw them in China and then found out that they’re pretty widespread.

It's no surprise we're trying to take these places away from kids in schools too. The american mind is adverse to a place where people can gather, eat quality food for free to low cost, and talk to one another, probably about how much they're getting fucked over and should organize to do something about it.
