Lies and misinformation.

the Six Day War was a surprise attack launched by Israel.

  • In 1956, Egypt blocked the Suez Canal and Straits of Tiran to ships supplying Israel.

  • Israel invaded Sinai and forced re-opening of the shipping routes.

  • Israel warned any future blockade of those shipping lanes will be cause for war again.

  • In 1967, Israel repeats that warning once more.

  • Egypt blocks the shipping lanes again.

  • Egypt pulls back to defensive positions and orders the retreat of all UN troops.

  • Israel attacks

There was nothing surprising about it.

Your meme says that the Arab countries (the guy with the knife) attacked Israel (the assaulted guy who has a gun). That's objectively false, all opinions aside.

I didn't post that meme.
And for what it's worth, I believe Israel is currently perpetrating a genocide.
That doesn't mean everything they've ever done was always 100% evil.
I'm against re-writing history. And nothing Israel did in the 6 days war was worse than what any other country would have done in the same situation.

Ok.

And for what it’s worth, I believe Israel is currently perpetrating a genocide. That doesn’t mean everything they’ve ever done was always 100% evil.

That's besides the point. The meme is lying about who attacked whom in 1967. Israel destroyed the Egyptian air force on the ground in a surprise attack. The USA has done evil things, but I'm not gonna lie and say they launched a surprise attack against Japan in WW2. Facts are facts.

I’m against re-writing history

So am I. That's why we can't accept a meme that says the Arab countries jumped Israel with a knife and it then defended itself with superior firepower. Total contradiction of the facts.

That doesn't contradict the meme. You may find Israel's victory distasteful, but that's different from misinformation.

Just need to edit the main body. The coalition did not actually declare war first, they just closed the Strait of Tiran first, when it had been made clear that would be an act of war. Details matter though.

My memory is a bit hazy. Sorry about that. Will edit the body.

and the image too

You're making out that Israel was attacked, which is misinformation.

Blocking resources from entering a country is a form of attack. We criticize Israel over blocking the transport of goods into Gaza, we also need to criticize Egypt for halting the goods into Israel in the run-up to the Six Day War. It's unacceptable to block the goods going towards an entire region, regardless of which side is doing it.

The double standards is real. US embargoes countries and threatens other countries that do business with it. That's beyond criticism for the rest of the world.

While its allies are free to invade with disproportionate intensity without any consequence.

There's a difference between "we won't trade with you" and "we will intercept all the goods other people try to trade with you". It's the difference between embargo and blockade. Blockade is generally considered an act of war, embargo is not.

That said, I do agree that double standards are common and a problem.
