Went to a culture festival with my mum. She danced her heart out along with her childhood friends her age with the traditional dances that only that generation knows. Had a beer and filmed her like I was the proud parent, said hi to people I should probably know by now, and just sat back and enjoyed the spectacle of it.

That's awesome! Sounds like your mum had a blast! You're lucky to have that kind of relationship with your mum.

She has her moments :-)

May day parade on Saturday. Leeds United winning something parade today. Lot of walking around Leeds city centre without buying anything.

The run up to a fortnight of holiday for me, so the days were simultaneously dragging and full of stuff that I was trying to get finished or progressed as much as possible.

However, now I am dozing in the sun with the requisite amounts of clotted cream and cider and a stack of books (Banks' Use of Weapons at the moment).

Once the BH crowds have thinned, I will probably get out for some coastal hikes too.

Love Iain M Banks, Excession is one of my favourite comfort books

Just rereading that one now. It's been decades since I first read them all, and it's fab to get back into that universe :)

Just been out gardening and watched all the BH tourists heading home (45mph through the village...), so should be safe for you to get out now

Is banks the sci-fi author? Sounds like a great day though!

[-] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

Yes. This is one of his Culture novels. I've been enjoying them so far.

I'll have to check his stuff out. I hadn't heard of him before until I saw lots of his books in Waterstones when I was having a browse.

I'm currently reading Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

magic cheers mate yeah, how are you?

Went out and did a cheeky run today - first one after a minor op a week ago, and my eldest carried on after me and put more than two and a half miles on me.

Absolute legend. Chuffed for him though.

Yeah I'm good, had a good week!

Also managed a cheeky run after having a couple of weeks off after having shin splints, in which I'd had a three week break before that due to surgery I had. It was a very slow 5k but just a bit of a shakedown to make sure my calves and shins don't still hurt!

[-] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

mate good effort, that's five kilometres more than you've done for the last three weeks so it doesn't matter how long it took. Absolute legend!

[-] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

Yup, felt happy just doing 5. My last attempt at a run I managed a mere 2k before giving up as my shins were killing. This time they were totally fine, but my quads were aching since my wife has been dragging me to the gym!

Good lad, did the furthest run for a while trying to get back into running after a long break on Saturday morning. 8 miles day after a BBQ on 3hrs sleep is not recommended

[-] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago

Smashing effort. I've never been a running natural, I just do it because it's apparently good for me and cheap as fuck (outside of a decent pair of hooves).

I went and did the Cardiff Bay 5 Mile a few years back, and a pal of mine rolled out of his colleagues place having been out on the piss the previous night, same T-shirt but with shorts on, and just panned in the five miles before going to feel sorry for himself somewhere else. What a machine.

Weekend has been a nice mix of sorting out chores, seeing friends (BBQ Friday night, visiting others in a nearby town overnight) and enjoying a beer or two. Going to celebrate SW Day by catching up on Andor EP4-6 tonight

These weeks just keep passing by somehow. Without getting too philosophical, it was a good one. Me and Mrs had nice walks with the dogs, a fair bit of garden work got done, and even the car got a thorough clean.

Oh, and unexpectedly the shoe army marches to Cardiff. Come on you Saints!

Got thro a anglo-american wedding without touching on politics only for it to blow up in the cafe on the way to go the airport. #fml

I've finally managed to replace my broken window handle. The one that was fitted had a weird internal mechanism and the way it broke meant I couldn't open the window to remove the screws and I couldn't use a card trick to open it.
