So where's the hate-crimes prosecution?
Never mind, it's New York, they'll probably go after the woman instead.
A community for discussing events around the World
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

So where's the hate-crimes prosecution?
Never mind, it's New York, they'll probably go after the woman instead.
She was a Jew and "The men seem to believe she was part of a pro-Palestinian protest against a visit by Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir earlier that day, but it’s been reported she was just a concerned resident"
So a Jewish women protesting against genocide was harassed by a racist mob chanting pro-genocidal slogans.
It doesn't matter if you are jewish or not. If you dare criticize Israels genocide you are anti-semitic. If you are Jewish you must support Israel and all their war crimes.
On behalf of Jim’s and Jimmy’s I’m embarrassed that the other reply to your comment is so shallow, sigh
“Itamar Ben-Gvir supporters” are literally called terrorist sympathizers, at best. An Israeli court convicted him of terrorism related offenses. It’s not even controversial. It’s like saying El Chapo wasn’t in a cartel or that Trump never gave $3 hand jobs in an alleyway near the Sbarro in midtown NYC that now sits on West 33rd St.
There's a fucking Sbarro in NYC? Why?
Sbarro was founded by two Italian immigrants in Brooklyn, they were probably real NYC pizza at one point
Huh, TIL, at one point it probably was.
But at one point people liked Kanye West, too, and then shit happened. Times have changed lol.
I don’t know. I live in New Orleans and they had a Red Lobster in the suburbs and someone is trying to put Chick Fil’A restaurants all over town. (The someone is literally a guy who got rich via owning a garbage truck company.)
Tourists like shitty fast food sometimes. I don’t know why people get the worst fried chicken in the city but people do. Some toddlers throw a fit if their dinner isn’t chicken nuggets.
For the same reason there’s a TGI Friday in time square. McDonald’s. Olive Garden. It’s there for the tourists that rather have their slop.
But fake NY pizza in NY? Just go to literally any local. It's not like a Sbarro in Kandahar, that I'd get, but this still makes no sense.
I personally know people that think sbarro (and Olive Garden as a proxy) is on par with “other pizza” as its own thing. Those people recognize it’s not “real pizza”; they just like it for what it is.
Tbf, sometimes I'm right there with em, I'm not above drunk ordering some dominos, or on the rare occasion I go to a mall I may hit the Sbarro (but the fake Chinese food wins every time, let's be real), but it's literally the same thing just more fresh and made to better specs! It's not even "real tacos V taco bell," it's such a close approximation of the "real" thing but lacking soul, whereas taco bell is so far from real tacos that it'd be more understandable to prefer the fake version. Like even Olive Garden V real italian I get, because it's americanized enough, but Sbarro is not far enough removed from real pizza as to necessitate this phenomenon.
I could understand getting Sbarro in Chicago, for those averse to deep dish, because it's a whole different style. I could understand some Chicago chain in NYC, for those who want deep dish. I could even understand Jets "detroit" style, because that's different too, but Sbarro in NYC is literally just "worse and more expensive version of the same thing you could have got in 20 different shops on your way here."
I've been here my whole life and, honestly, we don't know either. But The Office made fun of it when Michael went to NYC!
The good news is we have these assaults on tape, so I'm sure there will be a robust investigation and the attackers will be held to justice. Right?
Here's hoping you're right. Maybe all those who helped find the Jan 6th rioters will jump on this bandwagon.
Eventually.
Seriously, this is my hope. Make sure all proof is safe.
