China already set the bar on this one and America had already started testing it out. Regardless this is disgusting. The world does not need everyone to have a "social credit score".

Very inefficient when they can just ask FBI, NSA, or any of their counterparts in other countries about people online records. Or they can just arrest high profile person like telegram founder to give access to the logs.

It's getting worse than North Korea! But I guess they just used that as inspiration along with Taliban and Putin

Funny enough,my friend who had (for work reasons - humanitarian aid) travel to Afghanistan didn't have to provide his social media.

It's like they really want to discourage tourism.

For everyone that is not a white Christian heterosexual man, absolutely. They want Gilead from The Handmaid's Tale, which is the Project 2025 end goal.

they do! the maga cult can't be exposed to diverse perspectives. the motivation for this is that diverse perspectives threaten the white supremacist hegemony by offering frustrated white men alternative solutions to their anger that they can't perform masculinity in the way idealized by people like andrew tate, donald trump, and pete hegseth (none of whom live up to that standard, by the way. much like hitler would have been sent to a death camp were he not the führer given the phenotypical traits he possessed and was persecuting). white supremacy says the answer is to get violent, entrench yourself deeper into capitalism, and intensify the status quo. the hierarchy is intrinsic to human nature according to these people. never mind that the racial hierarchy was invented 400 years ago.

but that's the thing, at the end of the day. it's not even that japan isn't racist, or doesn't have problems with the hierarchy. it's that if japanese tourists talked to the maga cult, they might notice things. they might figure out our divisions are arbitrary. the white supremacist plan for this country is mass scale civil war / genocide. the cult leaders need numbers. they get more numbers by keeping people already in the thrall enthralled. any risk to that is unacceptable

RIP the immigration agents who now have to spend 40 hours a day looking at pictures of latte art and people obscuring their faces next to shitty parfaits.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Naw, that's what shitty AI is for

What if you don’t have mainstream social media? Are they going to believe that you don’t have social media?

Hopefully this causes prices of flights to the US to drop. I (citizen) have to go back to visit family this year.

What if you don’t have mainstream social media?

That is literally inconceivable by the self-centered assholes who make policies like this.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 days ago

Don’t let Musk learn about twitter alternatives, or they will make twitter registration and active usage a visa requirement

doubt only Japanese are required this, most likely they're just the first to report it

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

They're not, and it's not new (it even says this in the article). They're the last to report it, its news bait because it's a hot topic. Now everyones clicked and they got their ad dollars.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago

It has been like this for years now. Not that I agree with the policy. It is an opportune time to bring it up.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago
