nice photo! unrelated, i am very interested in your mouse. it appears to be functional (wireless) + ergonomic + visually appealing = too good to be true???

Thanks!

And if you like trackballs, this mouse definitely fits the bill! It's the Logitech M570, and I've used these for years, they're so comfortable and I prefer them over traditional mice.

I'm an m570 fan also. Great mouse.

After seeing your posts and looking up begleri, I decided to try it. It’s fun to learn, but definitely a skill you have to develop. The tricks look easy until you actually attempt them. I do enjoy just wrapping it around my fingers while I’m sitting around at work though. Thanks!

Ayyyy, welcome to the club!

Yes it’s definitely got a steep learning curve! But once you’ve gotten the feel for it, a lot of the other tricks are a much easier to learn - even if they’re more technical

Any suggestions on where to get begleris. Any begleri groups on here?

Anything by Aroundsquare will do you very well, they can be pricy though, but they are definitely premium in quality. I love the Commons, Sigmas, and the Mini Hydras

TGP also makes great sets

MonkeyFinger also have some interesting bead designs

There’s also a bunch of fairly cheap alternatives online, and they’re usually not too bad. Amazon or Etsy will give you loads of options.

And you can always make a set from hex nuts and paracord too!

No dedicated community here yet, alas. But I am working on getting [email protected] going. Not specific for begleri, but for skill toys and fidgets. Didn’t want to get too niche too quickly, without enough of a user base to support it

Found a sub that's been created but completely empty. Thought I'd start it up by making a post.

I'll definitely check all those out. Seems like amazing products!

Damn why do I keep getting into so many hobbies lol.

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: [email protected]

Fun hobbies 😉

Let me know what you wind up going with and how you like it!

Yeah they’re super useful! But don’t be afraid to find a different tutorial. The ones they have are great, but the embedded video controls make it tough to scroll back a few seconds - plus other videos may explain it differently which winds up clicking better for you!

I've still been looking at different begleri to buy. I found a neat design but it's aluminum and 7g per bead. I fear they will be too light as opposed to a 9g mini hydra or a 14g modern standard heavy. Any suggestions?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

7g per side is definitely a little on the light side, especially for learning. The lighter the set, the more precise your timing has to be, which makes getting the feel for it a decent bit harder.

I'd aim for at least around 17g for the set, preferably ~20g. The Mini Hydras (~20g) will do you so well, imo. They're a fantastic weight not only as a first set, but you literally cannot outgrow them. They're just as suitable for advanced tricks as they are for learning, which is why pros love them too. If there's one set I could pick for an all around 'best' set for everyone, I would say the Mini Hydras are it.

The Modern Standard Heavy is also a good set, but it comes in at 28g which is heavy. Just like a set that's too light, too heavy can make getting the feel for it more challenging as well, plus they tire your hands out a lot more than a mid weight set.
