****Hey! My gf wanted to try out Trackmania since I've been getting into it. However we can't get it to run on her steam deck at all.

For reference here's how I did it on my deck: Install trackmania from the store. On first launch it briefly says "running instant script: ubisoft connect" or similar. Then Ubi starts, i logged in, done. Now anytime I launch TM, ubi pops up briefly, takes care of things and runs the game.

However, on her deck, the instant script runs, then she's greeted with an old-school windows error box from TM informing her that it needs Ubi connect.

We've tried all kinds of trickey like installing Ubi as a non steam app, changing proton versions, changing the proton context, reinstalling, deleting compat data for a clean slate...

Most guides online are old enough to not mention the instant script.

If anyone has an idea of what might be going on, I'd greatly appreciate any pointers.

Someone very recently was complaining about ubisoft not working on their deck, so ubisoft may have changed something.

Not an ideal solution, but if you have a working install for it you may be able to copy your prefix folder for the game to her deck.

Alternatively you might be able to install and get her set up on a windows PC, then copy the install folder from that. This will be trickier though since you'll need to probably copy install and config folders for both the game and ubisoft connect I'm guessing.

IT WORKED! THANKS!

Holy hell we've been at this for like 3 hours, kde connect made it easy too. Good stuff!

The prefix folder is the one in compatdata yes? Sorry I'm new to proton and linux in general.

Have you tried installing and/or opening in desktop mode? Sometimes you have to do that even just for the first time you run with games that have separate launchers.

Yep we tried a lot of combinations. All of which seem silly since on my deck i could just tap install in gaming mode and jump into the game.
