For a short while I was getting a lot of pro Traoré content on wechat. It was a good time

President Ibrahim Traoré: not just fulfilling the legacy of Thomas Sankara, kicking out imperialists, nationalizing resources, and building up African solidarity and self-sufficency, but apparently also shrugging off assassination attempts like a modern day Fidel Castro! Is there a cooler person alive today?

I have been on these streets long enough to see these kind of military guys come to the scene, ruffle feathers, and slowly morph into the exact same thing they claimed to hate. Talking to Burkinabe people, I am not sure how long this post will endure.

This is hopless fatalism, each case have to be viewed with their own particularities, one day it can work, at least I think we are Marxists because we believe it can work, and it can be that Ibrahim is the first step towards it working

It's definitely a possibility. We shouldn't put our faith in a single person. But regardless, the important thing is that right now a good example is being set that can inspire people across the continent. It shows that countries can seize control of their own resources rather than letting neo-colonial powers exploit them.

What's the lesson you think on Sankara then?
