At this exact moment? DnD. Level 17 and in a big fight with 7 PCs and 20 enemies.

Recently - my wife and I just finished heavenly bodies and are now replying with Newtonian physics turned on.

I just picked up Starsector after seeing it on Lemmy. It was described as a cross between Mount & Blade and Daggerfall. They weren't wrong.

I'm in the middle of my first play of Morrowind. I can't believe I waited this long.

I'm using OpenMW, but otherwise going full vanilla. I want to have the unaltered experience before I mod it.

I love Morrowind so much. I've started it several times but never finished it. Damn side quests always consume my time.

Gal Guardians: Servants of the Dark. It's a Metroidvania by Inti Creates about two demon maid sisters who are trying to restore their dark master, the demon lord Maxim Onslaught, after his defeat at the hands of a rival demon lord. You level up by collecting your lord's scattered bones, which unlocks new abilities as well as raising your stats, and you can collect subweapons as loot with random modifiers, and then condense the modifiers you want onto the weapons you like. You can swap between the sisters at any time (or play with a friend in co-op): one has a submachine gun, which is long range but consumes ammo, and the other has a whip which is short range but high damage.

It's superficially similar to the previous game, Gal Guardians: Demon Purge, which features two sisters in high school who are demon hunters trying to save their school from being transformed into a demon castle. But in addition to being significantly less horny (Demon Purge had a panty-collecting side quest... these games are in the same setting as Gal*Gun, so I guess this is to be expected), Servants has a much more open and interconnected world, compared to Demon Purge where the castle is separated into levels that mostly don't cross over into each other. At the same time, the design for each individual room is a lot less tight: in Demon Purge, almost every room has a specific challenge to overcome, but in Servants there are many filler rooms, and the difficulty of the enemy layouts is lower overall.

There are also a lot of elements I would consider somewhat half-baked, including the subweapon upgrade system and the way rebuilding the castle is handled. Overall it doesn't reach nearly the same heights as their excellent Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2, which I would consider the best modern Castlevania-like. Koji Igarashi was involved in that one, so maybe that's not surprising.

I would only recommend Servants of the Dark to fans of Demon Purge who don't mind the shift in level design, or who need something less embarrassing to suggest for co-op with a friend. If you're looking for a Castlevania-style game and haven't played any of the games I mentioned, I'd start with Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon if you're looking for classic Castlevania, or if you prefer the post-Symphony of the Night games, I recommend Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (also by Koji Igarashi, but with his studio ArtPlay instead of Inti Creates).

About a third of the way through "Banishers". Someone, maybe here on Lemmy, recommended it, and damn it was a missed gem.

If you dig supernatural/ mysteries, with action combat and investigation sequences it's a hoot. You know what? Imagine a mini-Witcher 3, with a few polish issues.

Crab Champions, of course.

Well that just looks fantastic. Thank you.

Ooh, DoomDepths looks cool. Love me a good Roguelike. Been playing Ethos Idle and Balatro on my phone, and Satisfactory and Darkest Dungeon on PC. And RoR2 is great!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I started playing it a couple years ago and then kinda forgot about it. Once you get to the Sacrificial Depths, the game changes a bit. I'm really enjoying the progression in the game, although it can be a little slow.

I used Satisfactory for hours by myself. Another one I just kind of forgot about. Now I'm wondering if my save is still there....

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If your save was before 1.0, the game has changed quite a bit, so might be worth starting a new one!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

I probably will. It's been a year at least.

Just lost my Fallout 4 save, level 64, so I'm now level 2 again. Also working through Sniper Elite Resistance.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Ugh. That sucks and I'm really bummed to hear that.

ARK: Survival Ascended - I run a cluster for some small Twitch streamers; it's kind of in a lull right now so I've also been playing Conan Exiles, and also doing Godot game "dev" to replicate certain features of Conan - I enjoy the rock breaking mechanic, so I'm replicating it in a game engine that I enjoy in my spare time.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I really.loked Ark. Played for about two years straight. I recently tried Ascended but I've only got a 3060 so it doesn't do so well with it. Beautiful game though. I played Conan for a while and really enjoyed that. Might get back into it since they've changed scenarios now.
Did you build the game engine you're using?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

3060 12gb works great in ASA. I'm getting a solid 50 fps at all times with everything on Epic. I'm learning the Godot game engine; everyone learns it for 2D, but they recently started building the Jolt physics engine into Godot by default, so I think it might start becoming a contender for at least somewhat basic games.

After playing Conan, I realized how low the bar actually is in terms of game-polish. I know logically how they do some of their effects, so I want to replicate them.

Maybe I had it cranked too high? What settings do you use?

Don't play many games, but I did just pay ENA Dream BBQ
