I hope to read more about American companies crying capitalistic tears

[-] mesamunefire@lemmy.world 67 points 11 months ago

I'm hoping with enough pain, there will be meaningful change.

[-] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 33 points 11 months ago

Americans are stupid and proudly ignorant. I say this as an American who wishes it would change.

[-] Joeffect@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago

More bigger tariffs! That will solve the problem

[-] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 10 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

One BILLION percent!

Dr Evil laugh

[-] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 131 points 11 months ago

Keep up the good work. Every dollar sent here is a dollar that will work against you.

[-] Ledericas@lemm.ee 9 points 11 months ago

and hopefully florida will stop recieving canadian tourists too.

[-] HamsterRage@lemmy.ca 83 points 11 months ago

Buy Canadian is best, but anything will do if it isn't American.

[-] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 64 points 11 months ago

My order of operations is Canadian -> European -> Anywhere else on the planet -> Decide if I actually need the thing or not -> Chinese -> American.

In other news: Boo Hoo.

Fuck America under the current government. It’ll take decades to repair the damage the autistic Nazi and his cuck orange granddaddy have done not only to Canada but the world.

[-] ImADifferentBird@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 11 months ago

It'll take far longer to repair the damage they're doing to America. I'm not even sure most of it can be repaired.

Honestly, boycott us. Our capitalist classes need to be taken down a peg.

[-] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 14 points 11 months ago

Yeah, I never thought I'd say it, but I hope the entire world shuns America and fucks us over.

I doubt even that will fix us, though. We are past some kind of disinformation event horizon, where most of us will never see much reality outside their local life, including leaders who are drinking the kool-aid. Even Idiocracy is kinda idyllic because at least Kamancho was relatively open minded.

You don't need to politicise disabilities.

[-] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 47 points 11 months ago

Wonderful news. Keep it up even when tariffs are removed. We MUST grow Canadian made for Canadians to purchase.

[-] Kamikazimatt@sh.itjust.works 25 points 11 months ago

See, that’s the thing that gets me. Our countries have had a great trade relationship for a long while now and some giant Cheeto needs to go and piss on everyone’s shoes.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, produce Canadian items so the American market suffers. Make the people who voted for this situation realize what they’ve done to themselves.

[-] SirMaple__@lemmy.ca 43 points 11 months ago

Uh yeah. That's the whole point!

Maybe think before you vote next time or actually vote!

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 34 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Elbows up Canada! 🦫

[-] JackFrostNCola@lemmy.world 32 points 11 months ago

Meanwhile: Canadian manufactutors pulling their hair out while reviewing their books "what are we going to do with all these profits?"

[-] P1nkman@lemmy.world 26 points 11 months ago

Same thing happening with local soda and fast food joints in Denmark. Love to see it!

Everybody here in the US keeps telling me that I'm wrong when I say this stuff will destroy our economy.

I sincerely hope the rest of the world proves them wrong.

[-] jacksilver@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

I mean look at the stock market, customer sentiment, etc. Everything is pointing down and we haven't started to see the unemployment that's going to be brought on from all the government layoffs and attempts to rescind grants/contracts.

I think the next jobs report is going to be painful and we won't see anything positive economically for a while after that.

[-] floofloof@lemmy.ca 7 points 11 months ago

I expect the Trump government will prioritize cuts that make it difficult to get accurate data about the effects of the cuts.

As an American: good. No one here wanted this nonsense. Not even magas.

[-] madcaesar@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

You know something is stupid when even magats know it's stupid.

[-] Justus@lemmy.ca 28 points 11 months ago
[-] Apple87sagan@lemmy.world 27 points 11 months ago

Starve the greedy parasites, all of them.

[-] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 25 points 11 months ago

"Due to large drops in revenue we're forced to layoff workers." Laid off MAGA voters, "But that wasn't what was supposed to happen!"

[-] Catma@lemmy.world 22 points 11 months ago

"Why would Joe Biden do this?"

[-] figjam@midwest.social 13 points 11 months ago

Nah, they are saying short term pain for long term gain. What exactly they are going to gain? Who the hell knows

[-] SulaymanF@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

It’s a brilliant piece of stupid propaganda. If the next democratic president tries to bring the country out of depression by undoing these dumb policies, the MAGA folks will claim that they nearly had solved the problem but that the awful democrats stopped it at the last minute before the prosperity would kick in.

As an American, I hope the pain that these companies experience translates to strong and direct pressure on our politicians to grow a fucking spine against the dictator.

[-] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

The response, so far, seems to be licking boots, unfortunately.

Yup, been avoiding american products as much as I can at the grocery store. Fruits and veggies that can't be grown in Canada I will get from Mexico or anywhere else in the world except the US.

And not just about the attacks and threats. With the current US administration gutting regulations, there will be more risks of getting sick from eating contaminated food products.

[-] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 17 points 11 months ago

I don't live too far from the Canadian border. I'm sensing an opportunity to make bank on black market tools and office supplies.

[-] WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 11 months ago

I smuggled 4 import vehicles in my butt when I crossed the Mexican border yesterday. They’ll never take me alive.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

Next they should take back the Nordiques

[-] mrodri89@lemmy.zip 10 points 11 months ago

Good, hope more countries do the same.
