Oklahoma is already a failed state - look into child welfare and DHS. There are parts of OKC and Tulsa that look like a third world country - while the rural regions are mostly micro cults.

The US conservative movement is a cancer that has eaten this country from the inside out.

No, it's not.

It's that the movement was hijacked by the failed states of the south.

We replaced Edmund Burke with the dreams of a restored Jim Crow, and politics as viewed by rabid WWF fans.

The south will destroy America, if only because they hate that they are the worst part of it.

You’ve voted for it, assholes. Eat it up!

I wouldn't gloat over this one, because a huge number of people who didn't vote for it will also face the same consequences and many of them will suffer and/or die because they depend on social security for their main or sole income.

Nothing to be done at this point, all we have left is watching leopards eat faces. They wanted this damage. They wanted to hurt people they disagreed with. So yeah, we should feel schadenfreude or gloat when they shoot themselves in the foot because they were going to do this to others anyway. The math says that’s all we get. We shouldn’t be glad that they succeeded in accomplishing any aspects of their talibangelical manifesto of Project 2025 at all, but their willing support of an inept authoritarian and their whining that they get the same treatment should not be given a pass.

They are casualties of war and there will be many more if we don’t figure this out.

Glad my parents and grandparents are all dead already. Real normal thoughts to be having.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

I'm dreading having to take care of my parents. I can barely support one family, let alone two.

this doesn't really strike me as a 'leopards ate my face' moment, unless we're just meant to assume everyone living off of social security voted for cheeto hitler. or is this community just becoming a place for laughing at the misfortunes of united statesians in general?

closer to 25%, actually. about a million voted for trump, out of about 4 million total oklahomans. regardless, this article isn't about trump voters specifically getting fucked over, and rueing their own stupid actions and choices, this is about elderly and disabled people throughout the country, regardless of their voting history, getting fucked over. seems off topic for the sub.

[-] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Yep, I'm seeing more and more blaming all Americans no matter that almost as many voted for Harris as for trump and no matter how hard so many worked to defeat him. So no surprise they're fine with innocent people losing their social security.

This article is taking about boomers in Oklahoma. I guarantee 90+% of them voted for Trump.

[-] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago

I don’t think my younger brother on SSI with a severe genetic condition voted for Trump.

My family had to fight for about six months to even get him on SSI a few years ago. (He’d probably be actually dead if not for the ACA - he had “capped out” on insurance shortly before it passed).

Oklahoma is a shithole people can’t escape. We imprison and kill mentally ill people, the conditions we keep foster children in are inhumane. The people who don’t get to vote need protection from the people who are. This “let Oklahoma drown in its own shit” approach forgets that they’re doing it to hurt people like me or my brother.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Exactly. Gloating about the demise of a major safety net of the United States does not belong in the Leopards eating faces community because it affects everyone in the country and especially the elderly and disabled, not just trump voters. People in every state are upset about it, not just people in Oklahoma/red states.

Best wishes to you and your brother.

Social Security is a federal program. It going under will not only affect boomers in Oklahoma, and the 65+ demographic voted for Trump at the same rate as 18-29s (51%).

Age is not a determiner of morality, and gathering to point and laugh while the elderly and disabled die due to eliminating government safety nets sure fits in with the Nazi zeitgeist, but probably not the way y’all want it to.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Thank you for getting it, both on the age group voting stats and that the leopards+faces meme/community is about trump doing things that hurt his voters specifically, not things that harm our most vulnerable people throughout the whole country regardless of their politics.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Because if we don’t do anything about it we deserve it. That’s the logic. I’m not agreeing with anything. I’m just a leaf in the wind.
