Jesus, I had heard that Canadians were starting to refuse to travel to the US, even if only for a layover. This is WAY more of a drop than I expected. Good on them for standing up for a good cause.

I know more than a few Americans where I live that are wary to fly anywhere now that Chucko Fucko and Mr. Angry Mangled Inch are gutting Air Traffic Control.

To be clear, we've been reluctant to connect through America for a while. It's just too much hassle and risk of getting a TSA droid on a bad day and missing a flight because of some guy's ego. So we often go around.

I watched the second tower fall with my own eyes. I was so ground-zero in the weeks following that I get PTSD from the nuts4nuts carts. I suffered troopies on the MTA platforms, thankful I profiled 'harmless'.

But America has been Too Much for about a decade. If I was going to Atlanta or Queens, okay. I'm not even connecting through LA, though, otherwise; and never, now. And YYZ burns brain cells, but that's where we are.

We were planning to road trip to the US in the summer with Bowie our dog.

The idea of a border agent getting anywhere near our dog is absolutely terrifying.

Trip cancelled, driving through small town Ontario instead.

And for Americans traveling outside of the US - If you want to have a relaxing vacation, iron-on Canadian flags are about $2 a flag.

I remember a time when a lot of US backpackers would sew Canadian flags onto their packs so they could travel Europe in relative safety.

When I took a travel job in my early 20s I was handed some Canadian pins/luggage tags/etc for this exact reason.

I'm definitely still tempted to tell people I'm from Canada

Sorry to break it to you but Americans are identified by sound way before they are identified by sight
