So the democratic party seems to be in a civil war right now between the old guard like Schumer and the more progressive side like Bernie and AOC. But the conservatives seem to be fractured themselves based on some of the town halls we’ve been seeing, even if the media wont report in them, which could lead to more republicans fleeing to the democrat side making it more right wing. However, It’s clear the old strategy may wasn’t working and many on both sides want more progressive ideas. But was the failure of the 2024 election enough to shake up the party? What are your thoughts?

They are enabling racism. Bernie would have been an fdr 2 but they blocked that. They’re just facism light. We need a working class people’s uprising and party. Unions, general strikes and solidarity

This implies a fundamental misunderstanding on the party’s role in US politics. They are a capitalist party. They will not challenge capitalists. They’ve already thrown any number elections, rather than give even minor concessions to the left.

No. I'd sooner bet that Congressman Yang's new "forward" party that he been tryna create for a couple years comes out looking good than dems moving anywhere but right. Sanders ain't even a Democrat, and aoc is an exception that's already been screwed over by the rule candidates

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I don't think Yang is a congressman. He lost all elections. Did he win a state election somewhere? The Forward party is doing pretty well though. Yang is only a co-founder for it and gets wheeled out for meetups sometimes. I thought about joining up since I like their platform, but they also seem to be pretty do-nothing but bitch and moan. My rule is very simple. First party to throw molotov cocktails gets my vote and throwing-arm.

really? I thought he was in congress for a hot minute several years ago. maybe I'm thinking of a local office? or maybe just a campaign trail with statements that lined up with stuff I follow

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 days ago

Yang has never held elected office.

He ran in the Democratic primary in 2020, which he dropped out of, and ran for mayor of New York City in 2021, which he lost to Eric Adams.

They announced they are "no longer living under the tyranny of small donors." They're just as fucken brainrotted. We need new parties.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 days ago

geez, havent heard that one. wheres the quote from?

If the Democrats don't start fighting, and representing the working people instead of the wealthy corporate billionaires, they will keep losing. In the past, they would clearly rather lose than embrace the progressive wing of their own party.

First off, Republicans will not ever "flee" to the Democrats. The rules in the MAGA party are very simple: You swear undying fealty to King Trump, and you will win your local elections or at least not get primaried by someone Trump likes better. You step out of line, and your career in politics and possibly life are over. This basically guarantees you your job, which is all 95% of politicians care about.

In fact, you are already seeing Democrats collaborating with Trump for this exact reason. Job security. Principles? Who gives a shit. Ask Fetterman all about it.

Second, the DNC has always been in a civil war with itself. Bernie Sanders is not new (mildly put). But right now that civil war is on a low-burner, because the only "progressive idea" everyone is championing right now is: "Let's have a system where people can vote for their next king...I mean "president". Remember when we did that? We should maybe do that again...somehow".

We have already regressed about 150 years in just 2 months of Trump. Just today Mike Johnson is musing about getting rid of federal judges, the pitiful mini-check on Trumps power. The Democratic party will either have to engage in good old streetfights and become a revolutionary party, or they will find themselves in concentration camps. And that is not hyperbole. When Hitler finally had free reign after dismantling the German constitution via bullshit, the first thing he did is put the socialists and communists in camps. He did that LONG before he ever moved against jews. Killing the opposition party is always step one.

Lmao no

Their rich doners would never allow that to happen.

This ends in the death of the Duopoly or the death of America

Bread a circus. The Old Guard is fundraising higher than ever and directly benefiting from the conservative tax cuts. The handful of progressives in office are a drop of water in an ocean of blood.

With all the civil rights violations by the current administration that lawyers, civil rights groups and judges are blocking and fighting, the people defending civil rights are going to be better at defending and restoring civil rights, as well as more motivated to do so now that they see for themselves how quickly those civil rights can be abolished in their generation, right in front of their faces, specifically due to imprecise language protecting and codifying those rights.

Yeah, if we can win this and kick him out, I'm not going to stop my activism for years. Even if we can't, I'm going to be an activist somewhere in the free world after I run.

good on you, there's always going to be a better world to fight for

The party on its own won't do shit. We need to start primary the old fuckers with young left people

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Looks like the slightly less evil party is going to try to copy the others in a race to the bottom. https://www.yahoo.com/news/democrats-comeback-retreat-suggests-party-1130 44158.html?guccounter=1
WTF are you americans doing that you don't know this about your own country? There truly is no hope for you.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

From a political strategy point of view, reacting to "country makes a hard shift to the right" by making a move further left does not seem like the most likely path.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

Thank you. These are politicians. They're generally not as bad as the electable alternative, but they're playing the game of politics. They are incentivized by votes (and, obviously, money), they choose their demographics according to the respective volume of votes cast.

They'd need to see a massive progressive turnout at midterms to push left.

Outlook not so good.

I doubt it.

Trump's first presidency was supposed to be a wake up call.

They threw Hilary into the ring.

During the post-Biden election, after fixing the chaos that Trump made, and instead of pushing for reform and supporting the working class and everyone still left behind...

The idiots of the Democratic party said, "All these BLM/Police Reform protests and calls for workers rights seem interesting. Let's put a pro-cop black woman that should make a bunch of people unhappy as a compromise."

Bernie has been a loud voice since the 70s. America didnt pay attention until 2010. America's Democrats won't pay attention period.

AOC earned the nickname AOC Pelosi over the last two years. When you need her she will let you down.

Instead of pushing the DNC for concessions she caved instantly and tried to shame her base into voting Democrat.

You’re one of those Leftists who sat out this election to preserve your moral purity, aren’t you? Get off of tiktok.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

How does it feel losing and having no moral purity?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 days ago

I dunno. But whatever I "feel", is not something I have to justify, it compulsively defend from the comments of a random person online.

I'd ask how your "moral purity" feels, but I honestly don't care about the justifications of some dweeb that actively facilitated fascism. 🙄
