You scroll through social media or you get a notification from someone, and you see the American flag in their profile picture. What kind of impression does that person give off? To me, it's usually not a good one. Rather than reflecting the American ideals that I hold dear, the use of the American flag has felt like a symbol that celebrates the attacks on those ideals. Maybe that will resonate with some people.

I don't think it is controversial to say that the American flag has been hijacked by nationalists. I want it back. It might be small form of protest in the grand scheme of things, and it might confuse people who don't know me, but I'm adding a little red, white, and blue to my social media profile photos to show this is one more thing they're not taking away from me.
