Trump signed the EO in front of a bunch of children to dismantle the DOE. My mom is a university professor at a state college that receives federal funding from the DOE. She works in the science department as a PhD theoretical chemist. The university admin that has taken over the establishment in the last 10-15 years has constantly put pressure to remove the sciences from the gen ed curriculum. This may be the push that lays her off at no fault of her own, simply because she is the longest tenured professor there at this point. However, she does not have the same protections as full professors because she opted to not do research. She opted instead to teach and has been one of the best teachers I've ever met by far. I might be biased, but her students say the same. She made it her life's goal to provide education to any and everyone and has always been in the side of the students. She's tough, be she makes the time to be there and teaches true understanding not just assigns homework. I've watched her dedicate her life to what she believes in. That is now at risk.

My father, as of this morning, was just admitted to the hospital. I don't have many details as my parents and I live on opposite coasts now. But my father was a carpenter, and a damn good one. Due to work conditions he lost his hearing and has emphysema and is disabled and unable to work given his condition,, receiving disability. He is currently in the ER, the doctors wanted to call an ambulance, but they waived it away as they wouldn't be able to pay for it, if that gives you an idea of their financial situation.

If my mom is laid off, they will lose their insurance. Depending on what my dad's condition is, they very well may not be able to cover the expenses. With the upcoming cuts to our countries social services, it's unlikely that the treatment my dad may need will be covered.

How the fuck can anyone support this bullshit? How can two people who gave their bodies, minds, and souls building homes for people to live in and educating our future workforce be left in the dust to fend for themselves when they've don't nothing wrong? They've done nothing but support this country and the administration would rather take more money from them and let them die? This is a dystopian nightmare and I cannot fucking believe anyone who is a working class citizen votes for it. I get you want change, but what the fuck are you doing? Voting "for" change? That's laughable, get off your ass and do something rather than blaming hardworking people for your own problems. Grow a fucking spine and fix things you lazy assholes, my parents shouldn't have to be broke and die for your shitty self to complain that you don't have enough money and your city isn't taken care of. It's the people at the top who keep your money, wake the fuck up.

Thank you for letting me rant. I hope you all have a good day. And I hope my dad ends up ok. Get up and get out there if you haven't. This is the reality we live in. We have the power to change it if we don't just sit complacently and tune things out hoping for the best. We have to make the best.

Sorry to hear about your parents circumstance. It's truly awful. The world can only hope that trumpism doesn't spread, and indeed that it is quashed sooner rather than later. What an absolute terrible state of affairs. Peace and love from Australia.

The world is watching and bemused.
