News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.
glad to be here!
Hey, does anyone know when a new user can upload an avatar? I’m still being denied.
It take a few week on Lemm.ee IIRC. Most people wait for a bit, if that's really important for you you can have a look at https://lemmy.zip/.
You can export and import your settings from your settings account using the default UI
How come theres been an influx of users recently? Did reddit shit the bed again?
For me I left Reddit recently and switched because Reddit made a change that broke the Boost app.
Yes they started banning thousands of active users for “inciting violence” if you say things like “fuck Elon musk” or “my favorite character in super Mario bros is Luigi”
Well i can understand that - the best character in super mario bros is Yoshi
Reddit recently started doubling down on far-right actions. Like making it so you can be banned for just upvoting a post that breaks the rules, or banning you for saying the name "Luigi."
Personally, I recently got permabanned for being truthful about fascists.
Can some people who are willing to post something other than American politics and Reddit bashing posts join lemmy soon, I'm sick of my entire feed being nothing but all these negative topics
Big things are happening in the world right now. I know that it sucks.
I think Lemmy is a bit too complicated to attract the kind of light-hearted users that made Reddit shine. It's daunting unless you have nowhere else to go.
People on
Seem to be doing fine.
There is a pinned post with non-political communities on [email protected]
Use an app with filter lists. Add american political terms to filter. Experience gets muuuuuch better.
For those of us using Firefox there was a post on [email protected] on how you can use uBlock Origin to create word filters.
To do so, open up the uBlock Origin dashboard, go to the ‘My filters’ tab, and add this filter:
lemmy.world##article.row:has-text(/word1|word2|word3|word4/i)
For example:
lemmy.world##article.row:has-text(/Trump|Elon|Musk|nazi/i)
Blocking all of the political and news communities can help
[email protected] has a pinned post without active non political communities
I had a discussion the other day, where people were not happy with lemmy instances not handing data over to google. They argument was that we should do everything so lemmy can be found more easily, as the only goal is to "win" against reddit.
Unfortunately in that discussion people were not interested in using Lemmy and the Fediverse at large to create a positive vision of the internet. They just wanted to stick it to one corporation they don't like. I don't like reddit either, but i think we should thrive for a Fediverse that upholds decentralization, open source and non commercialization of social interactions. All the large Internet corporations want to create the opposite and have been quite successful so far.
Right there with you, it’s going to be a long four years…
Just block the subs. Or subscribe to communities that interest you and stick to your subscribed feed.
Hi :) it's a niche community but I'm doing what I can
This is my first post, on my first day here, and it feels pretty good.
It’s kind of a rush picking a username knowing most are still available.
I know! I hadn't even thought of that until I saw someone's was like "mee" and now I need to get another account. It's like how people get caught off guard when I tell them my 20 year old email is just my name with no numbers or special characters.
and the best part is that if a name is taken on one instance you can just try another!
So tasty names still available
(There always will be many good names available since every name can exist once on every instance)
I'm loving it already! And...I'm not scrolling through ads too!!
Every time I end up on Reddit the amount of ads makes me recoil. You’re free now!
Dozens of dozens of dozens of dozens of dozens... 112,744 to be inexact...
Lemmy Total Users by Day: 1,352,936 for 3/12/25.
Divided by 12, that's 112,744 and some change... probably a couple of baker's dozens in there....
Looks like ~53k monthly active users, I think that's a better stat, since it doesn't include people making new alts and abandoning their old accounts.
Then that's 4,416 dozen, give or take a baker.
But all in all, I'd say that lemmings are much more active than Redditors - just based on responses to my posts and comments. I've earned 15k karma on this account, far more than any of my vastly older reddit accounts. Take that for what you will, but I've personally found the community here much more active, especially as of late.
Content quality is drastically better too.
If anyones looking for chill communities to sub to, here's a fat ol list https://lemmy.world/post/16327122
Dozens+1 ! :)
Hey fellow redfugees!
Welcome! It's nice and comfy here, if a little less of an infinite content-hose compared to Reddit. You might need to do a little more heavy lifting yourself in terms of posting and commenting, but on the plus side - people actually read what you post, instead of being drowned by a deluge of spam and bots! And discussions are mostly friendly and civil!
I kinda like that it's smaller here in terms of content and users. I left reddit back at the API thing, I'd been on there over ten years and was spending easily an hour or two a day on there. Here, I pop in, check it out, get a similar experience - but I don't get stuck in endless scrolling or stupid arguments. Instead I'm reading more books.
And it also actively prevents doomscrolling when you see the same post multiple times.

Lemmy and Mastodon are like "PBS" social media.
"This is brought to you by people like you."
It took every person on this platform to get us to 600. Bots I'm calling on your power.
