My theory is that him and Adam Baldwin were both on the outskirts of these conspiracies, then when they were in a show together (Chuck) they started talking together and it spiraled and they both became crazier and their combined crazy fueled each other. If you look at the trajectory of both of their craziness, it seems to line up with the second half of the series and afterwards.
It's funny that I thought the gun-happy, violent idiot act was just for the characters, but it turned out Adam was just being himself the whole time.
Throw in an unhealthy amount of Christian fundamentalism and you've got Adam.

I knew he sucked, but what an unbelievable piece of shit. What makes him arbiter of who is "...truly good, working people..."? Why should only those who voted for this exact outcome be saved?
