Sadly relegated to "one hit wonder" status thanks to the success of the single "Banditos" (give your ID card to the border guard, now your alias says you're Captain Jean-Luc Picard), I always thought this followup was the better song. One of my favorites on an album loaded with great songs.

I love this whole album! I was surprised they didn’t get bigger attention for it. Mekong, interstate, down together. Fantastic songs, and they’re such quintessential Americana to me.

Yeah, it's a great album. I wasn't as keen on their second album but this one is was filled with a lot of songs that deserved more attention.

If it's been a while, I'd strongly recommend you give The Bottle & Fresh Horses another try. I felt the same way, but then years later it really clicked for me. "Buy American" and "Una Soda" are the only really weak tracks for me and even those aren't bad. The first 4 or 5 songs are great and id argue that they do the "Down Together" chorus even better on "Fonder and Blonder."

My people!

Like if America had achievements, you'd unlock a rare one by driving through the Southwest with this album playing.
