We are doomed to repeat history because history alone does not carry the weight of horror and tragedy. The anguish and suffering from past events are nothing more than entertaining books, movies, tv shows, video games. The western world is privileged in that most of us don't know what it feels like to be in the midst of complete chaos and total destruction.

We are too comfortable to believe that it can happen again, and we are too naive to believe that it can happen to us.
