And there's also the nature of work. In China, the state nudges private industry towards productive endeavours along side having a vast publicly owned industry that does work that directly produces social value. Meanwhile, in the west, the nature of work is determined largely by the whims of private capital that only care about maximizing profits. This leads a lot of the labor being directed towards meaningless shit that has no actual use for society, and often causes harm.
Good watch. I'm reminded of a WIRED doc from 2016 they did on Shenzhen. I haven't watched the whole thing in years, so I'm sure there are but I distinctly remember being intrigued by the information sharing mindset.
