It's pretty much impossible to tell if the battery is OK without opening up the device. I'd err on the side of caution here.

I think the burning would have happened already, and doesn’t matter if it's charged or not. I'm not a battery scientist though 🤷♂️.
Impossible to judge without a picture. But that shallow of a dent would likely be fine. The batteries used these days are slightly squishy and can deform slightly without concern and is designed this way to squeeze into imperfect fit housings.
