Don't really know where to post this as it is only just announced on his Instagram but I was curious to see your opinions on it. Especially given that parties like PSL or Green are already somewhat established and growing.

I had the opportunity to meet Chris at our party's festival once and he seems like a good guy. Really motivated to work on class consciousness. And his work with the Amazon Union is amazing of course. But I wonder if there needs to be yet another working class party in the US.

I worry it's the same kind of thinking that drives someone to launch the 5th split and forum or discord server or whatever for a given topic because those others are doing it alright BUT you're convinced you'd do it just a bit better and can address some problems you have so really you should throw your hat into the ring because you think you can pull out ahead (though in the end all you end up doing is furthering the fragmentation 9/10 times).

In fact it takes a great deal of humbleness to not do such a thing when you have the energy and leadership qualities and maybe there are real arguments for problems with the existing parties. It's a hard temptation to resist. In this case there's the obvious idea that Americans are afraid of an explicitly communist party so why not launch something less scary or hardcore and more focused on just unions, being pro-labor, etc. Doing that might mean the feds can't quite as openly crush you but it doesn't mean the bourgeoisie won't make it their mission to sabotage and destroy you anyways and bring great resources to bear and call you communist just the same.

I worry anything like that risks becoming "big tent" and having its message watered down and co-opted. Letting in opportunists like AOC types who are quickly bought off once in actual office and the whole party kind of lurching that direction as there really aren't any militant labor parties that aren't explicitly socialist that I can think of off the top of my head in the west in the modern era. We've all seen what they did to Corbyn who was hardly extreme.

But he's a capable organizer so who knows. Maybe it can compliment what we have.

I'm optimistic about this.

If it's quite successful then perhaps the entrenched propaganda is too great for a communist party to do similar. It could lead to a lot of people getting educated about class.

As long as it doesn't go down the path of the British or Australian Labour Parties.

Is he going to build from the bottom up?

I don't know a lot about him. From the sound of it, you know more, having met him before. I guess time will tell. I'll be very curious to know what kind of messaging the party has. If it shies away from addressing imperialism and colonialism and sticks purely to working class messaging, or if it is willing to take them on. I don't see the harm in him trying if he's a skilled organizer for the working class, but if it ends up being some watered down thing, that'd be kind of underwhelming for getting past US western chauvinist tendencies, ya know.
