In the years leading up to covid, I was a caregiver for my grandparents and watched them slowly lose their minds before they went. My grandfather was especially bad at the end. So my two biggest fears regarding covid are the death of Herd Immunity, which we're watching occur, and this shit. doomjak

The idea that it causes CNS demyelination is horrifying. I'm worried that longterm the mild cases will be similar to the etiological link between mononucleosis and multiple sclerosis.

Brainfog is bad enough. Developing Alzheimer's at such an early age is downright terrifying.

reminds me of that one youthful woman in her teens or early 20s who was in a terrible car crash and caught covid - which caused her dementia at such a shockingly young age

should add there is a good chance the damage to her body from the car crash most likely factored in some way detrimentally

I am probably the most COVID-conscious person on this entire website, but she was also in a bad car crash a year earlier. This one's a toss up

One of the last things I saw before leaving Twitter again (I rejoined for a bit back in October because I was angry about electoral politics) was abled leftists scolding disabled leftists who criticized leftist orgs for not taking COVID seriously. How many horrors do we have to see from this goddamn virus before people start taking it seriously?

Between all the recent news about COVID and H5N1 I'm finally going to invest in a bunch of N95s, I think. I tried to avoid non-reusable masks for a while because I'm on disability and every expense has to be justified, but...

Have you checked to see if there's a MaskBloc in your area? They may be able to help with sending you some.

Also, depending on how much you can budget, it may be more cost effective to get something of the elastomeric variety. For a while now, I've been waffling about on pulling the trigger for a Flow mask myself.😅

Thanks for the link! Sadly, it doesn't look like that's an option for me. :/

The Flow mask is definitely a bit pricey, but I could probably put away some money for it or something similar. It also addresses one of the issues I have with other elastomeric masks which is that I struggle to do anything in public that I fear might draw attention to me due to heavy (psychological) masking, and a lot of the others look very attention grabbing.

Welcome! Yeah they have some cute flowery covers too, that I imagine could force people to lower their guard. Lot of instant anger at the 3M auras around me, and I doubt it's over 3M's support of Israel. Another reason I wanna move away from the auras.

shop around and you may find some on short dated masks on heavy discount. often these will still have 6 months before expiry and are probably still fine to use afterwards anyway.

Herd immunity never existed with covid, is it okay to say that here? The vaccines prevented acute deaths, but not infection and not spreading.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, no, I mean for everything. Mass immune disregulation raises the virality of all pathogens. doomjak

About to take a COVID test, really hoping this is just the flu because I'm still not sure if I've gotten over any of the long term effects from the first time I got COVID
