With the Broncos ahead by 21 points in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Panthers, Broncos head coach Sean Payton called a fake field goal and had wide receiver Courtland Sutton throw a pass to fullback Michael Burton to convert another fourth down.

Imagine complaining about the broncos "running up the score" when, on the same day, detroit nuked Tennessee with a tactical "fuck you"

If the NFL wanted to be a league full of "unwritten rules" like that, it may as well be MLB

'Member when Tony La Russa said his player deserved to get a baseball thrown at him for having the audacity to swing at a pitch?

I 'member.

In fairness to Tony, he was probably drunk at the time.

lol maybe. But he was genuinely apeshit mad that his player swung at a pitch.

Honestly, it’s not about running up the score… why waste a trick play when you’re up by 21? You pull that shit out in close games. Now everyone knows what you practiced and you can’t really run it again

I think Detroit has blown up that myth.

Dan Gamble might even call the same play next week.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

Or, he never intends to run it again but he thinks opponents will spend practice time learning how to defend it

One thing I like about college football is that running up the score literally doesn't exist. You're not just playing to win. You're proving that you're the best. Beating someone by 30 is significantly better than beating them by 1.
