My Unread Messages is at 2 (it was at 1 for a month or so, but since weeks its at 2 now). Clicking it shows nothing. Maybe there are messages from people I blocked? When I get real new unread messages, then counter goes up and it works like always. Reading those messages (or clicking them as read) will decrease the number, up to 2.

I've had this happen for people I've blocked. Have you tried using the "Mark all as read" button? That has worked for me before.

Unfortunately its still an issue. I've unblocked all people to see if any message pops up. There is no Mark all as read-button. And I usually mark each single reply as read once I open it. The 2 at the notification bell icon on top does not go away, it's basically the new 0 for me. Here is a bug report from someone else: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/1300

Weird. Yeah, sorry, no clue past the standard clear cache/data, refresh, try different browser

Last night site was unreachable and today I had to login. And the 2 Unread Messages are now gone (yes, the whole time they were there). My assumption is, that some temporary files in the cache got deleted or they addressed this issue in the code.

Unrelated: As a side note, they also addressed the issue with not being able to post the < character < (or was it > character >). Previously anything that followed this character in the post was just deleted. I had to workaround with images! Now this works.
