Apparently libs think saying what's happening is "startling by anyone’s standards".

“There will always be a radical segment of Ukrainian society that will call any negotiation capitulation,” he said. “The far right in Ukraine is growing. The right wing is a danger to democracy.”

And then...

Another brigade commander, Maksym Zhorin, accused Marezhko of having no idea what he was talking about, saying in no uncertain terms that yes, in fact, negotiations on Russia’s conditions would always be seen as capitulation.

It's hard to find media coverage of it, but I'm pretty sure every Ukrainian city (including Kiev) are policed by neo-nazis. When the war started there was chaos, because the Ukrainian government decided to give an AK to anyone who asked. In the cities neo-nazi groups started keeping "law and order", now they have uniforms. AZOV started as a "special task police force" in 2014. Nazis policing is not a new concept for Ukraine.

The TCC is almost 100% all nazis. People wonder "who could do that to people, shove them in vans and kidnap them for the front?" Nazis, that's who. Those are the people with a vested interest in the war continuing and they need cannon fodder. It's sickening.

Who controls the streets, controls the country. I have heard from several Ukrainian refugees that they left because they got sick of the open nazism in their city.

The threat about taking down the government is not an idle threat. They have done it once before, in 2014. Neo-nazis are in control of Ukraine and they will be a problem for Europe down the line. Especially when the threat is ignored and downplayed: "Ukraine’s far-right fringe remains a sensitive topic in the war-torn country".

Liberals: Nazi-enablers since 1933.

should zelensky's government be afraid of zelensky's government?

Tankies proven right once again, weird how this always happens.

“The far right in Ukraine is growing. The right wing is a danger to democracy.”

Can we just get a straightforward "We regret arming neonazis to the teeth for the last ten years and cheering them on to invade Russia" already? This soft-landing walkback bullshit is so annoying.

I understand that after WWII the CIA took control of the Banderites as a terrorist force to use against the Soviet civilians and armed forces; how NATO was cobbled together from the Nazi diaspora; how Canada imported Banderites to gut labor organization and all that. There's probably a lot more awful stuff I don't know, too.

So yeah, in the larger picture. But I was mainly referring to the time since the Maidan coup (which, of course, even then goes directly back to the previous color revolution...)

You're a well informed comrade, I appreciate you.

No, because they don't regret it

If this kind of messaging is not some semblance of regret, then what else might it be?

My other take is that it might be a pretext for a western invasion of Ukraine under the guise of "stopping the far-right and restoring democracy", which, of course, would just be an excuse for the US to block an end to the conflict and create a new tripwire for nuclear war. The Kiev regime would probably also be relieved to get an easy out like that. Given how depraved and psychotic the US and NATO are it wouldn't surprise me. In which case, I hope they're just showing a little regret.

Distancing. Same as it was with other reactionary regimes that were helped into power - see Afghanistan for example. They'll pretend it wasn't the CIA and Wall Street and pentagon doing all that shit, they were totally just helping democracy, bro, and then those far right nazis just showed up out of nowhere!

Which would follow nicely from what I've described above. Just like in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yugoslavia, and many others

But I was told that far right groups having political power in Ukraine is Ruzzian propaganda!

it's only far right if your overton window is hopelessly skewed. zelensky's govt is actually as far left as they come, and his opposition groups are only slightly to his right, being socdems.

the most democratic country in europe

it's stiff competition

"Afghan Trap 2.0 is failing so let's see which version of blaming our proxies will stick."

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is it falling? Sounds to me like the exact kind of distancing and pretending to have nothing to do with it as it happened with Afghanistan

This time around the Russian economy made more signifcant gains and inadvertently - from USAmerican perspective - helped forge closer ties with China and the seeds of an alternative economic block with the Global South outside of Western control; the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazhan being an important example of this.

iirc there hasn't been any "democracy" since little Z took over and shut down opposition parties and dismantled mass media

Zelensky's government? Not really (bc that's who they are). Zelensky personally? Probably.

The offcial narative is slowly backpaddling into the realm of reality again.

should Zelensky’s government be afraid of far-right groups?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

but also, it is itself a far-right group. so they only have to fear other far-right groups (or their own members) as much as fascist infighting necessitates.
