WTF, talk to the (ex-)employees, the investigation will take a week. I have heard some pretty horrendous stuff from the two that I have met.

Good investigations take more than a week and certainly won't rely primarily on employee testimony. If things are as bad as they say, it'll come out in things like maintenance logs, environmental testing, animal health records etc.
The issue is that the animals there may not have the leisure to wait for the completion of a proper probe. The balance between due diligence and alleviating the suffering of these animals may be tilted in the wrong direction in this particular case.
In Canada, all non-human animals are property and do not have any rights. Animal protection laws are not usually enforced. Try to change that, and capital will resist you diligently.
