Thoughts on this book?

Thoughts on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit?

I might watch The Rings of Power but I've heard mixed things on it. What do you all think of it?

Mostly though: I'm hoping that some people here can expand on what I'm reading so far.

'Cause honestly, I do like what I'm reading, I do, and that's because I genuinely like the mythological tone that the world-building takes. And Numenor as an "Atlantis" is a fine way to do things, but honestly, I doubt they'll be able to do much with it in whatever Amazon property they decide to make of it (which, I mean, is fine). I wonder if there are other shows or serials besides The Rings of Power that are coming out? Either way: I really like the beginning and how everything started with music and song.

Your thoughts?

It's a great book, I have my problems with a few of the narrative choices but I've never regretted reading it.

So far, so good, for me. Page 40 right now. Listening again.

The Sil is great. It gives the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit its not-so-mythical past which makes artifacts from that time feel really valuable and important.

Yeah, loving it so far.

I like Andy Serkis' voices for Melkor and Iluvatar.

I love the Silmarillion, and re-read it about once a year. Even though it's written like a history or mythology book, some of the stories in there are incredible.

I haven't heard of an andy serkis read one, but there is already an audiobook that's well done.

By Shaw, right?

I'm listening to the audio-book version by Andy Serkis (the actor that plays Gollum in the movies).

It's on Libro.fm and Audible, but you can just use the one in Libro.fm, if you want.

How are you doing, by the way, old friend?

Ya that's the one.

Nice, I'll have to check out the andy serkis version.

Same, actually.

I'm also going to Guatemala later.

Soon, I'll be having my graduation ceremony for university afterward too.

I quite enjoyed the Silmarillion when I read it, but I'm not sure I'll have the stick-to-it-ive-ness to reread it anytime soon. I like the story of Beren and Luthien, and Glorifindel's fight with the balrog. Lots of really cool stories in there.

The Rings of Power is based on the lore in the appendices of Return of The King - broadly the same story, but their interpretation is almost like an alt history compared to this. I enjoyed the first season ok (if I disagreed with some of the writing), but I haven't felt compelled to look into the second season yet.

I love Glorfindel! So he has his own story here? NOICE

And yeah, it seems that the second season fell off the rails.

Yeah! He's not a main character in it, iirc, but you get an idea of why the valar favor him. He's got a bit in the ROTK appendices where he has a battle with the witch king too.

Noice.

I loved the convo between Glorfindel and Frodo after the adventure with Tom Bombadil.
