/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

MODERATORS

Hello Trekkers.

Now that I've posted about a week of O'Brien At Work, I'm curious people's thoughts/ideas/etc. Do you like me posting every day? Do you not? Too much/too fast/too slow? I'm just curious how people think about this. Let me know!

Love it. :)

One a day is perfect. Easy to scroll past if it's not your thing, but a consistent (and grim, LOL) chuckle if it is.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I’d say it’s less grim, and more bone-deep ennui. It’s great.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago

LOL, I might gently suggest that ennui to the degree portrayed in these comics is well into "grim" territory.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Yeah, well put. Grim isn't my thing, keep on rollin with my cup of tea. I just want TFW to grow to an obscene level and absorb every other Trek meme community on the intarwebs.

As long as people provide a link to the source I never have a problem with people posting comics 👍

[–] [email protected] 24 points 4 months ago

I like it once a day, it's infrequent enough and not repetitive.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 4 months ago

Love it. No notes. Excellent pace.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I told you in the secret place that shall not be named that I love it. Please continue.

You can't fit the entire moderation team in the back of a Volkswagen.

Not even with a woodchipper and a bunch of trash bags. I know because I tried. And TPM still hasn't forgiven me.

Don't worry, some of us got it.

Also that kid is back on the escalator!

[–] [email protected] 16 points 4 months ago

Lots of people have been posting comics to Lemmy episode by episode. I'm totally onboard with there being a Star Trek one

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 months ago

It's fine as is IMO. Even if I hated them, one per day is nothing. Just scroll by. Or make a filter if it's that bothersome.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 months ago

I’ve enjoyed it and am in favor of it continuing.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I love the comic, dark and deadpan is exactly my style, and am really enjoying getting to reread it with everyone here! I think one a day is a good pace.

Some people in replies have had pretty strong reactions about it though. I think maybe a dedicated community would be a better place to post them, but I don't have a strong personal preference. (I browse "All" with NSFW blocked most of the time anyway.)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago

That's an interesting idea to create a dedicated community for it.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 months ago (1 children)

To be fair, I don't like the art style. It creeps me out. Sorry.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago

how dare you

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago

Agree with the others! Good stuff, keep it up!

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I like it, but I understand the pushback on the Lt Yarr one. Just that one comic, the others are funny

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Yeah, that one was iffy. I agree with the removal.

Not one of the good ones, for sure. The author makes O'Brien a little malicious sometimes (A bit of a meany, one could say).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I chalk that one up to a fantasy sequence. O'Brien daydreaming.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago (3 children)

I'm ambivalent about them. I've seen most of them before but I've also seen a few people complaining about them and I don't want anyone to block our community for just one comic. Perhaps a dedicated community for chief obrien would be best?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago

If people block Ten Forward because of one regular daily post, I think they were going to block it eventually anyway. I would say we average a good 10-15 posts a day.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

People can easily make create a filter since OP uses the same title format for the posts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Do you know if that's something you can do on the Voyager app?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yep, it’s in settings under the filter and blocks section. Just tried it myself. Make sure to use the same apostrophe as they do in their titles, I just copy pasted a title up to the work part. Or you could add a filter for the comic website.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Sweet. Thanks.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago

Why should we care if someone blocks us over trivial stuff?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I liked them on Reddit and I like them now. How many are there?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 months ago (2 children)

We might get tired of them by the end, then, but that's future us's problem!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Future us, with dom jot and hookers!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago
[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago

I enjoy them. They're like those The Far Side tear off calendars I enjoyed back in the day!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 months ago

Many comics have their own dedicated communities.

Personally, I think I would prefer to see this one have its own community. Which I would also subscribe to.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

Keep it up. It's good stuff, and I'm glad to see it here. If you get too many whiny people saying it's too much, maybe go to one every other day, but don't reduce it any more than that.

Lemmy isn't exactly flooded with content right now, so it is a welcome part of my feed whenever this comic shows up.

As a compromise, why not have a Monday (or any set day, but Monday feels appropriate) mega thread where you go and post like a weeks worth?

You can have a fairly active thread that all of you who enjoy it can stay and for those of us that don't want the spam can ignore it once a week and move on.
