I couldn't even figure out what they were bragging over until I had it explained.

We really need a before/after on this to illustrate how a multi-billion dollar hotel chain couldn't figure out trash cans until 2023

having grown up in the American south I've always used trashcan, but I will admit, wheelie bin does seem a lot more fun

To be fair, Chicago had a giant fire that burned the entire city down, allowing them to add new alleyways for trash collection. It's one of the most important parts of American urban planning lore.

Alleys fucking rock. Sure, It means things aren’t as dense as possible, but it allows for better walkable areas, as way fewer driveways at the street mean easier walking.
