I'm old enough to remember a time when being a conservative didn't mean being a liar and protagandist. The GOP are fascists. We need to recognise that and the fact that our Conservative parties are headed in that directing too.

Thats what really terrifies me, especially after Danielle Smith's win.

Taking Back Alberta is the fascist party in Alberta. The issue for the supporters of the rise of fascism is seething resentment at being seen as less. They were special because they were white and "christian". They could discriminate freely which made them feel powerful. Now that everyone has rights they can't do that anymore and they're just like everyone else.

Remember when Syndrome, the young villain in The Incredibles, said, "When everyone is special no one is." That's the problem. Now that they can't discriminate against people of color, or LGBTQ, or anyone else they don't feel powerful anymore.

Add to that the fact that people have for years been telling them that being a racist is bad, and being dumb is bad, and being intolerant is bad. They're tired of feeling bad about themselves and that frustration and anger has boiled up, as it always does, as fascism.
