Idc about edge (specifically) but something's got to be done about chromium and the power it gives Google over the entire web.
Windows
For all things Windows.
And what can there be done against it?
Chromium is already an open source project that no one is obligated to use in any way. You can't ban Google from developing their own project and you can't ban others from using the established codebase for their own browser.
Yeah I don't know if regulation is really the answer. Perhaps they should subsidize the development of an independent browser engine
This is the best summary I could come up with:
For context, the DMA is designed to prevent gatekeepers from imposing unfair practices on businesses and end users while simultaneously "ensuring the openness of important digital services."
Opera recently requested the EU General Court annul the European Commission's decision not to designate Microsoft Edge as a gatekeeper under the Digital Markets Act.
In light of this, Opera says the EU's failure to designate Edge as a gatekeeper is "entirely inconsistent with the purpose and promise of the DMA."
Opera claims Microsoft Edge meets all the quantitative thresholds under the DMA and should be a designated gatekeeper service.
In February, Mozilla commissioned research that revealed Microsoft uses harmful designs and deceptive tactics to promote its Edge browser to Windows users.
Late last year, some users trying to download Google Chrome while using Microsoft Edge were slapped with a survey asking them to detail why they wanted to try another browser.
