The GOP Twitter account tweeted, then deleted an image in celebration of U.S. Independence Day that appeared to erroneously feature the Liberian flag.

Oh god it's not even emojis they fucked up. It's a whole-ass illustration

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

LMAO I really expected emojis, this is insane

[–] [email protected] 42 points 1 year ago (2 children)

And they're very triggered the woke are fact-shaming them.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago

Fact-shaming. That phrase is freaking perfect. I'm stealing it.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

fact-shaming is now in my vocab, thanks

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 year ago

Flying confederate flags and Trump flags all the time they forgot what the USA flag looks like

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

For anyone else that didn’t necessarily want to scroll through the article but was wondering how far off the flag is:

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

The new marketing grad running their twitter must be trolling them. I can’t think of any other reason and I don’t want to believe people are that dumb/lazy.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You say erroneously, I say dog whistle. Slaves were repatriated there. It’s a troll, and not the first time they’ve done this, see CPAC nazi symbol in 2021

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean, this isn't an uncommon graphic design mistake, there's a whole subreddit for it. In this case it's far more likely to be a dumb mistake than an intentional dogwhistle like that suspiciously Odal rune shaped stage at CPAC may have been.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm OOTL. What dogwhistle stage are we talking about?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

CPAC's stage in 2021 which looked like a Norse rune used by the Nazis.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Yikes. Was it ever confirmed deliberate?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They would never admit to it if it was.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You say that, but these are the same idiots that posted the "we're all domestic terrorists" to a signboard, so you never know...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

See, to me, that is far less crafty and far more stupid. If this was an attempt to troll with a slavery dog whistle, that's far more subtle and they aren't subtle.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Not that I know of. The Odal rune is obscure enough to the average person that they have plausible deniability, so unless we find design documents or get a confession it's basically impossible to prove.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

No, when they arrived at the venue it was already in place.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by stupidity. They aren't that smart and they are very stupid.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You should also never underestimate evil - that’s how they win.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm not underestimating evil. I'm estimating intelligence. And they aren't that intelligent or crafty. Their evil is far more banal.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

m not underestimating evil. I’m estimating intelligence. And they aren’t that intelligent or crafty.

This is textbook underestimating evil, friend. Don't confuse the stupid act they put on for their constituents with their actual intelligence.

These assholes are ivy league educated and have (successfully) shaped the republican party under them to engender the support of the dumbest among us and eliminate just about every trace of coherent thoughts. But just because that's their base doesn't mean the leadership is just as dumb.

Granted, you have real idiots like Ms Bowling Alley Flasher or I Can't Believe it's not Jewish Space Lasers, but a lot of the leadership is moral-less bottom feeders desperate for power and willing to sell away the country and our democracy for it.

Say what you will about the idiots running the republican party, but those fuckers got shit done. Here's hoping the democratic party can take a page from their book and finally get their shit together, but I won't hold my breath.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Remember folks, these people like to (falsely) portray themselves as the patriotic party.

And the general public just eats that shit up.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They're just posers. It's reminiscent of when the former guy told Liberty University students to open their bibles to "two Corinthians".

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

They are far worse than posers - they are straight-up traitors.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

This is made all the more hilarious by the fact that Liberia declared its independence from… the US.

EDIT: small correction as independence was technically declared from the private “American Colonization Society” which is somehow even worse

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Ehhh. The US granted it independence.

EDIT: No, I guess not. It was never a US territory. I thought that it was a state initiative, but apparently it was a private one.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colony_of_Liberia

It is unclear whether or not Liberia was ever technically a colony at all. Unlike most other colonies in the 19th century, it had no charter and had no official allegiance or relationship with a sovereign nation.

I know that Lincoln supported the idea, but it looks like it was in the context of supporting a private initiative.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

At least it wasn’t Russian this time.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

Is there anything that isn’t embarrassing about those clowns?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

At some ambiguous point, stupidity becomes malice; hence the banality of evil. That was my point. They are displaying what they are. Stop giving them the benefit of the doubt. Or, will you continue to question their intentions until the end?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Pretty funny from a side who talks about how patriotic they are.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

"No stupid, put the Nazi flag up AFTER Trump wins!"

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago
[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Aside from the gaffe, I really hate how Republican extremists have hijacked the American flag for their weird aganda. Time to take it back.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What a bunch of incompetent degenerates... I mean "patriots".

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago

Kill-billies!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

The party of idiocracy and authoritarian traitors.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

When’s the last time you Googled a stock image of an American flag and found a Liberian one? Feign mistake, correct, repeat.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

When was the last time you mistook the Liberian flag for the American flag?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Gagging Obnoxious Pudknockers

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Bro, do you even Murrica? Smh.

Bang, bang, eagle swoosh.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago

@L4s stupid and incompetent, or evil, or both

[–] [email protected] -4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

It's a bit funny and all, but this is basically the definition of a non story.

I'm sure there were actual news today.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It's "cucumber season". Politicians are on recess.
