I'm not saying in actual use it's reliable, but then again that's true of every country's ICBC interception capabilities. Missile guidance tech is one of the things the USA has an edge in.

If it's laser-based (and it may have to be if it's going to intercept anything going that fast) it is the Star Wars thing all over again! 
Seems like a bit of a stretch if you're having trouble developing a normal hypersonic missle. Presumably, you'd need to make something faster and more agile.
