Now that the old Hexbear fork has been officially abandoned, this community will be used as a space for meta-discussion on the site itself.

Defederate programming.dev
I don't think I really need to explain much, their admins are transphobic.

One branch that ended up getting triggered due to the frontend snowe uses on mobile not showing pronouns (how most instances handle it currently is its appended to the end of the display name but some frontends choose to ignore the display name and just do the username instead)
Ategon, lead admin, refers to a transgender person as 'triggered' over the transgender person asking for proper pronoun usage from the other lead admin, snowe. Snowe also complained about that transgender person being offended. Ategon said this in an 'apology' post

Hey, one of the people in question here. Just wanted to clear up a bit of a misunderstanding. Use of the word triggered was referring to the conversation being started by a certain action rather than using it to describe the person. (branch refers to a branch of the conversation and the action is the thing after triggered). Ive edited the post to change the word to started to make it a bit more clear
can we defed from ponder.cat ?
its a one user instance and the admin is unironically doing this
removed ponder.cat from our allow-list
if blahaj.zone hasn't already blocked us, they will fairly quickly. as it's where a lot of the trans diaspora is going to wind up, I think anything we can do to forestall that eventuality will be good for us and them.
Why would lemmy.blahaj.zone block us when they federate with lemmygrad.ml?

This appeared in my feed today. Not sure if they’re marking posts as English or just unspecified but all of their content is in Polish.
What stance should we take on instances that don’t correctly tag language? On one hand, browser translation makes it relatively easy to engage, and more languages especially helps to recruit non-Western-Anglo users. But on the other hand, it seems like a mess if our users can’t control the language of their feeds.
