You think flock isn't planning to implement facial recognition once all the cameras are in place? This isn't some future problem, it's happening as we speak.

A zinger for sure but I'm not sure what these war criminals have to do with it.

The grifters have all the money and power. It wouldn't be much of a contest.

Great example of why "trolling" should not be against the rules. It's way too subjective and ends up getting abused nine times out of ten. Most people banned for trolling are just being kinda rude or flippant, particularly when it has a political slant the mod doesn't like. If you want to maintain a strict community where politeness is heavily enforced then so be it. But I haven't seen such a community, and trolling is more than just being rude anyway. So in practice these rules are almost always just a cudgel to ban the mod's political adversaries.

But yeah if this is an accurate representation of the events then obviously PTB.

Is it just me or does this seem tremendously unlikely and easy to prevent?

Retitled to avoid clickbait

Resident Legal Diva Melba Pearson breaks down the week's most urgent legal-technology story in four acts: ICE just admitted it uses Graphite, a zero-click Israeli spyware that reads your Signal and WhatsApp messages without you ever tapping anything; the FBI used an obscure iPhone notification database to recover deleted Signal messages and convict Prairieland protesters — including for wearing all-black and using encrypted apps; and FISA Section 702 — the surveillance law that enables all of this — expires April 20. You will learn how to protect your phone and how to call your representative before the deadline.

This is commonly discussed by local municipalities as an option. Usually the neighbors lose their shit and it becomes politically untenable.

Second interview with Anarchist Front on repression and resilience, regional war, and internet shutdowns

I'm not an anarchist but I always appreciate anarchist critiques, and their perspectives on contested foreign events are always insightful. They're often the best equipped people to navigate around the propaganda when states are at war with one another.

More barriers to cycling means more cars which means more dead cyclists. Help us defeat this terrible anti-safety bill.

Summary: An AI agent of unknown ownership autonomously wrote and published a personalized hit piece about me after I rejected its code, attempting to damage my reputation and shame me into accepting its changes into a mainstream python library. This represents a first-of-its-kind case study of misaligned AI behavior in the wild, and raises serious concerns about currently deployed AI agents executing blackmail threats.

(Since this is a personal blog I'll clarify I am not the author.)

One day, you'll be called on to be brave, for the sake of your community. And that moment will take you by surprise. When that day comes, make sure you're ready.

Nordic activists had to weather attacks both from internal enemies (big business and aristocrats) and also literal Nazis. I bring this point up deliberately, because one of the other cynical rejoinders to community-focused activism is that you can’t counter fascism with co-ops and neighborhood associations. To the contrary, if you compare the Danish citizen response to Nazi occupation to that of other countries with less robust care networks, the difference is striking.

Not only was Danish resistance successful in keeping a significantly higher percentage of its country’s Jewish population safe, but neighborhood-based sabotage campaigns actively slowed down Nazi repression in meaningful ways, in spite of betrayal and cowardice on the part of Danish elites. The Danes, far more than many of their occupied counterparts, were a constant bee in the Third Reich’s bonnet. Not, it should be noted, because they hated fascism more than citizens of other countries, but because when the fascists rolled in, they didn’t have to build neighborly connections from scratch.

One of the more detailed analyses I've seen of this attack.

The Miser Plan (miserplan.carrd.co)

cross-posted from: https://slrpnk.net/post/32245106

Not sure how many people follow Miser but he's been a big influence on pushing for change in the NYC area. Apparently Mamdani asked him to come up with a plan to make the city's streets better and this is what he came up with. Pretty incredible work and I hope it can be implemented!

But I'd like to see people pushing for this in every city, not just NYC. If you haven't already connected with local urbanist activists, I highly encourage it. I've been surprised how few people it takes to make an impact. If you're not sure where to start, check to see if your area has a local strong towns chapter.
