Gonna be extremely funny when a transbian furry puppygirl polycule figures out how to hack the master control server and set their killbots to Eat The Rich mode.
This is the sort of thing that sounds like it wouldn't work until you realize that it's literally Microsoft Flight Simulator, but with cars instead of planes.
Here's a fun fact about Flight Simulator. Years back I used to work in a computer store, and we'd do custom builds. My best sales, by far, were always to the smartly dressed guys in their late forties who came in looking for a gaming PC. You'd ask what kind of games they play, and they'd tell you "Just Flight Simulator." They really meant it. They were building a gaming rig for one game. And then they would drop the most heinous stack of cash to build a gaming rig that would make the gods weep in envy. Massive towers with double or triple GPU, maxed out RAM, best CPU on the market. Liquid cooled? Sure, fuck it, why not. Their parents built model trains. These guys had Flight Simulator.
As a franchise, that game has 22 million sales. The Forza franchise has 16 million.
All of which is to say that I do think there's a missed opportunity here. I hate racing games, but I'd play an open world driving game and I know at least one friend who would play it with me. Cruise down a mountainside in Italy, navigating hairpin bends with the hammer down and a beautiful sunset in the distance? Yeah, fuck it, sign me up.
Rats look extremely organized when they're fleeing a sinking ship.
Funnily enough, there are reports that after that F-15 went down, Trump had to be removed from the situation room because he got so panicky. And he was very specifically freaking out about the idea that this was going to be his version of the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis. So in this particular case he at least has some vague recollection of history (easier when you actually lived through it). It just wasn't enough to stop him bumbling face first into a total shitshow, because Trump is, above all else, unbelievably arrogant. He thought he could solve the Iran problem where every other president had failed, at least in his mind. Never mind that Obama made huge progress on Iran and then Trump was the one that tore up his deal.
OK. And?
How do they get home? Go on, tell us.
How?
Literally, how should they do that? They're on a boat, in an ocean. How should they go about the task of going home?
The 40% number indicates that they're talking about taxes.
And it would be a very ancap / libertarian take to be upset about 40% of your pay going to public causes, instead of being upset about the fact that your CEO probably pays you about ten cents for every dollar of value you generate (if even that).
Absolutely. One of the really nice things about Immich is it stores your files in a normal folder structure. Nothing obscured, very easy to backup.
There's always call for all kinds of specialized trades. You have to be able to handle the core discipline requirements (just don't be a fuck up, basically) and you need to able to pass the FORCE test by the end of your basic training, which is a moderately hard physical exam. You can look up the requirements online. After that, if you're not combat arms it's basically just an office job but in uniform. You work 8 to 4, get summer and winter leave (something like 8 weeks total per year), plus usually 4 day long weekends if your command doesn't suck, guaranteed annual pay increases, probably a signing bonus if you go into an in-demand trade, and potentially access to subsidized military housing. If you don't get subsidized housing, you'll get a cost of living allowance which is based on where you're posted; for somewhere like Ottawa or Toronto it can be a few thousand a month on top of your pay.
It's definitely not for me, but honestly there are far, far worse jobs out there.
Pretty sure being a hardcore alcoholic is just about the only way to handle being stuck in Trump's presence constantly. Either that or you gotta start doing ketamine like Elon.
Canada's enlistment age has been up to 50 for quite some time now. Basic gets you into shape... Or it doesn't, and you fail out.
In the grand scheme of things this really doesn't seem like a big deal. I think it's newsworthy because it reflects a clear anxiety in the US Military about their inability to fill their recruitment numbers, but beyond that It's not really all that unusual.
