Depends entirely on what games you play. Older audience are probably more likely to be into older less demanding games too. Personally the most recent game I've touched are from 2020 and 2023, and those are two big exceptions.

1000$ isn't all that much for a purchase that should last for several years if you're an adult with a steady job and your primary hobby is gaming.

From a Norwegian point of view, once someone has served their time, they've served their time and should be encouraged to get back into society. Freezing people out of society will only cause harm, and push them towards anti social behavior.
