Last week.

But cars tend to have more of a slant to the windows then they used to, so less bugs smack and splatter.

Valmund used to be Voldemort but got caught lying and had to change his name. So yeah this is a bad idea.

I like how you think.

No . Btw I'm left of center. My views haven't changed that much because of the net

[-] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

No problem on the phrasing.

I've seen things like what you describe where the parent was using the child support in that manner. Becomes a real problem when the kid leaves home. Always interesting when the one paying child support stops the payment to the ex and starts giving it to the kid (because they are going to college). Suddenly the kid sees who's really helping and who isn't.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 4 days ago

Child support would happen if you lived with one parent and the other parent pays.

Alimony (as far as I know) has nothing to do with having a kid there or not.

So I’m not sure why her alimony would change if you move out. It would change if she got remarried.

Alimony, also known as spousal support or spousal maintenance, is a court-ordered financial payment made from one spouse to another during or after a divorce. Its purpose is to help the recipient maintain a similar standard of living to what they had during the marriage. The amount and duration of alimony are determined by a judge based on various factors, including the length of the marriage, the financial circumstances of both spouses, and their ability to support themselves (this paragraph copied from Google).

Tell your mom you and her need to go to a therapist. Maybe a therapist can help to figure out how to move forward. Then tell your dad the same thing.

Maybe some of what was going on behind the scene will come out.

No one on lemmy will be able to give you a good idea of what to do or how to move forward.

I mean, look at what everybody is saying. Really read it. They’re all basically saying, make a decision without all the knowledge. There might one or two are saying something else, but I may have missed them.

Some are saying go live with your mom well that’s making a decision. That’s picking a side. Some are saying stay with your dad. It isn’t between you and your dad , it’s between your dad and your mom. But again that’s making a decision without all the knowledge.

Social media will give you a reactionary view in general. A therapist will sit you down and ask questions of not only you but also your mom and your dad. Then you have a better idea of what is going on. You may not have all the picture but at least you have an idea.

I don’t mean singing in a foreign language, I mean if they aren’t enunciating their words.

There is a style of singing where the singer rolls one word into the next word, or just cuts a word off. I find it distracting and I tend to skip the song very quickly when I realize what they are doing.

While it is a popular way to sing, I have never enjoyed it. I heard some of it in the 1980s but it wasn’t widely used. Today I find a lot more singers doing it.

There is no way to play out a full story by splitting the screen time for 3 stories. Even splitting it for 2 stories is not a good idea. By splitting the time that many ways it’s basically impossible to really flesh out a story and add depth. In a one hour episode you really only get 40 minutes of air time. If you split that for two stories you get 20 minutes of screen time to tell a story. 3 ways? Yeah now you are just wasting a show. You only get 13 minutes to tell a story.

Combine the above with the fact that we have less and less episodes per season, and This creates a real problem to tell a story of any sort

If you don’t tell the people why you are leaving, they don’t know what is going on. And this applies to businesses it applies to stores it applies to companies. It even applies to social media accounts. It even applies to your friends and family.

If you tell people why you are leaving, at least they can make a decision if they want to change or not. If the company or whatever is seeing less people coming in, but nobody will say why they’re leaving. How can they make the change?

There’s no realistic way that a manager or a host or the owner of a business or whatever could realistically ask every single person who comes through the door hey are you happy? Are you coming back? Is there anything we should change? That’s not real.

If you aren’t happy and you don’t say what is making you unhappy. Then that’s on you.

Not the business or the social media site or whatever.

They can’t read minds.

According to Brother (printer company) I need to set a rule for my firewall.

brother printer instructions

as you can see at that page it says :

To scan using the Scan Key Tool, open the following ports in the security/firewall software you use:

  • UDP: 54925
  • TCP: 54921

I think I have it correct. but i'm new to linux and to creating rules in firewalls.

Those screenshots of how i created the firewall rule. I have the incoming set to "Deny" but I would assume that means that normally deny incoming BUT the rules I created should be exceptions. At least that's how I would read that. If I am wrong please let me know.

The important part is that according to the instructions ports

  • UDP: 54925
  • TCP: 54921

must be opened and allow incoming traffic.

my end goal is to have the ability to push the "Scan" button on my printer/scanner and have a document scan and pushed to the computer. I am running Linux Mint 22.1

If you need more information to help me I'm happy to reply. The big item is :

is the firewall rule created correctly?

I should add that I did create a previous post about my brother printer and I went through brother to make sure the drivers are installed and setup . so that issue has been solved, now it's just the firewall.

For example I'll send an e-mail with 3 questions and will only get an answer to one of the questions. It's worse when there are 2 yes/no questions with a question that is obviously not a yes/no question. Then I get a response of

Yes

back in the e-mail. So which question are they answering?

Mainly I'm asking all of you why do people insist on only answering 1 question out of an e-mail where there are multiple? Do people just not read? Are people that lazy? What is going on?

Edit at this point I’ve got the answers . Some are too lazy to actually read. Some admit they get focused on one item and forget to go back. I understand the second group. The first group yeah no excuse there.

Continuing edit: there are comments where people have tried the bullet points and they say it still doesn’t help. I might put the needed questions in red.

Ok first let me state I thank everyone for all the help over these last 7+ months. I'm on my final item ( I think ) to be fully on Linux. If I can get this working I'll wipe windows 10 from my pc and just be using Linux. So here's hoping someone can help me on this problem.

It's not so much of a MAJOR issue but more of an annoyance.

If I go to Document Scanner in Linux Mint 22.1 I can click the scan button. The scanner will active and scan the document putting it into a pdf or picture. No issues there, so I know the computer can see the scanner. I can also print to the printer. (Should note that the scanner is a scanner/copier)

So the system works in that direction.

If I go to the scanner and using the controls on the front of the scanner and hit scan it will say "No PC Found". So it's (in my opinion) a driver issue. I believe the linux system isn't announcing to the network that "hey I'm here and ready". Could be easily wrong there.

I went to the bother printer web site where thankfully they have actual linux drivers.

brother linux site

I downloaded the Printer drivers from there. I also downloaded the scanner drivers. Also the Scan-key-tool 64bit drivers.

I can't remember where I found it, and I tried looking in my history but sadly no luck.

But I do remember a post that asked what the output of

brscan-skey

and

brscan-skey -t

when I type them into the terminal I get no real result, it just looks like

andrew@linux:~$ brscan-skey

andrew@linux:~$ brscan-skey -t

so no real output there but sadly I can't remember why it was important or even where the webpage was at.. but at least you have the output of the commands.

I'm pretty sure that it's just something simple that I'm missing.

Oh yes, I also turned the firewall in Linux Mint off. Just in case there was an issue there, but no luck. To turn it off what I did was bring up the GUI for the firewall and click the slider / button next to Status. Normally it as a check mark and I set it so the shield is just greyed out.

If you need me to run a command to check something or need more info, please ask.

The printer/scanner is wirelessly connected to the router.

Thank you

You go to lift up a chip and most of the stuff (toppings) is left on the tray.

Try to scoop anything up and you get so little that it’s more headache then it’s worth.

Not saying they shouldn’t exist, just I would never order them.

Most times the computer will turn off when I click shut down, but randomly it does not turn off. The screen shot is the output as the computer is trying to shut down. Any ideas of why the system randomly doesn’t turn off? How to fix it?

I think I might put a pin in this one until I do a re-install and put it on the hard drive actually in the computer. Maybe the external drive is causing the problem ..

For example, I just purchased mass effect legendary edition in steam in mint Linux.

I also have a Windows computer Windows 10, if I installed steam onto the Windows 10 computer and logged into my steam account. Would mass effect legendary edition show up there? I’m asking here rather than trying it , which sounds kind of odd, Because my Windows 10 computer isn’t working really well right now so it’d be kind of a pain to make the test myself.

The second half the question is, if I were to buy a steam deck, would my steam purchase of mass effect legendary edition show up on the steam deck?

I realize this not a Linux specific question, But I wasn’t sure exactly where to post it out.
