The insane greed is something I simply can't comprehend. Isn't there a point at which it's enough? It seems almost like a mental illness. Indefinite growth and infinitely increasing profit margins aren't possible. There's a limit to value and possible revenue. I don't know where all of this is going, but it can't be anywhere good, and I'm sure it will be violent. I seem to be in the minority, but I absolutely believe there is a point where a person has enough wealth and doesn't, perhaps even shouldn't, have more.

I did. I'm disappointed, but not surprised that it worked. I have no problems dropping Disney, too. The open sea is vast.

Isn't that also referred to as Virtual Intelligence vs Artificial Intelligence? What we have now I'd just very well trained VI. It's not AI because it only outputs variations of what's it been trained using algorithms, right? Actual AI would be capable of generating information entirely distinct from any inputs.

I think I could count the number of porn posts I've seen in the last month on one hand. Where do they claim all of it is coming from? I wouldn't mind more porn tbh.

Adderall Shortage (lemmy.world)
submitted 2 years ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

For those of you in the US, how's the Adderall shortage going? I'm going to ask my psych to switch over to it because my insurance is driving the price of Focalin through the roof. I want to get an idea if its even feasible right now.

So was curious if this was unique to me, or is a universal experience. As soon as I start thinking about taking my medication in the morning, my heart starts racing before I've even taken the bottle out of the cupboard. Then I take it and my heart continues to race for about 45 to 60 minutes before it calms down. It doesn't hurt, but it's unpleasant and kinda spoils my mornings. Anyone who has ever consumed way too much caffeine in a short period of time can relate.

New Reddit isn't gonna tolerate a sub dedicated to content piracy with an IPO in mind. That ship is sinking if not sunk already. If you don't like it here, I'm sure there are other places on the internet for discussion.

Yeah I'm starting to realize some things after really exploring Lemmy after a few days. My biggest concern is that the whole federated thing isn't gonna work for me. I don't want to hunt for small communities and then risk losing them in petty squabbles by those who control them. It's like a whole bunch of little villages who claim to be united and connected, but in reality any village can cut off contact with any other for whatever reason their village leader(s) decide. You can leave the village if you don't like it, sure, but do you really want to end up as an internet nomad? I sure don't. Federation clearly does not inherently mean everyone is connected, despite what some proponents of the fediverse might say.

"Okay, so it's the 41st millenium and there's this guy called The Emperor. He doesn't have a name, he's just The Emperor and he's the most powerful psychic in the galaxy. He's also a skeleton that's barely even alive sitting on a giant physic-amplifying throne. You see, what happened is that around the 30th millenium..."

As a Reddit refugee, and thus part of the problem, this kind of thing is what makes me unsure if I want to use Lemmy. I don't want to suddenly lose access to communities I've become accustomed to for reasons beyond my control.

Also, is there a way to see all the instances that have specifically defederated or blocked this one?

[-] [email protected] 12 points 2 years ago

I agree, this kind of thing is exactly what I think is going to stunt Lemmy growth. Federation is a double edged sword.

It seems like Lemmy is already experiencing further fragmentation and authority struggles. It doesn't bode well for growing Lemmy as a whole. Federation seems to be a double edged sword.

Really unfortunate, but not really unexpected honestly. The average user probably doesn't care that much and will just go along with whatever because they're just used to Reddit and aren't interested in putting forth the effort to find alternatives, regardless of how simple it actually is. It was an amazing effort by those who cared, but I'm gonna put on my tinfoil condom here and say that a lot of mods have likely been replaced and the criticality of Reddit has been intentionally suppressed in favor of positive sentiment. Don't give into vitriol, after all we did exactly what it says at the end of the post and we seem to be much happier overall. I would have never heard of Lemmy or Mastodon had all of this this not happened.

Wanted this to be here even though everyone has already seen it because I love it so much.

Same. I won't let go of Reddit completely until more of the people in my favorite subs migrate and rebuild their communities here, if they do so at all. But Lemmy and Mastodon will become my new main social hubs either way.

Or just any mobile games in general? I'm looking for discussions and recommendations for mobile games that aren't just trashware and cash grabs.

Edit: u/_MoveSwiftly has kindly created https://lemmy.world/c/androidgamers for this exact purpose.
